Here we go again - I'm hatching more goslings!!

Thanks for all of the info Celtic! I checked importing into Tennessee and if I cannot get the npip status before they hatch we can get a blood test/vet health certificate on the goslings prior to shipping (just like getting a coggins certificate for horses). I have talked to my local dept ag for utah and they are supposed to let me know how soon they can do inspect/testing. I also have a message out to the local avian vet for the private cert route. I hope we will be able to get this sorted out before they hatch in about 3 weeks.

They should hatch out on Thursday/Friday. If I cannot coordinate the npip inspect before they hatch, then hopefully can get the private test done/certificate right away... and then ship on the best day of the week possible. If all goes well, goosed, you'd have babies that were 7-10 days old at time of arrival.

Hope when the time comes to package/ship them, you will be there to make sure I do it the safest way possible!!

We are sure thinking optimistically about my hatching abilities! LOL

Oh, boxing is the easy part. Just remember to use the larger box for the older birds. (sent you a link for them)

Think I am going to make a couple more early keeper choices and then list and sell a bunch of Sebbie babies. We're are up to roughly 30 goslings right now. Not counting the 12 in lockdown, and two racks of eggs still cooking.

Marty, see the gosling in the middle? No idea what his color is yet, but he isn't white. Oh and he is yours. :D

I'll help take some fuzzy butts off your hands.

Goosed all three whites in that photo above are for sale, but the middle darker toned is spoken for to Marty. Speaking of, just took them all inside to a aid a storm, hubby thinks Mart's gander looks like my blue splash goose I am growing out. Next two weeks will show better.

How do you get the eggs? My poor turkey is still broody because I am in no way brave enough to come near her on her nest, don't know how I'll manage to get underneath a broody goose to pull eggs or check on things.
I always grabed them between laying and going broody.... geese wait a long time before they go broody

Hi Iain, glad babies are well and I bet it is loud with the poultry party. I've got quail, pheasent, turkey, 12 ducks, and a batch of chicks hanging out in the spare bedroom/brooder room. I'm going to clean out a garage room this weekend, and move babies. I can only take them for about a week. I'm tired of changing boxes every day, ready for the bigger birdie brooders now.

MoHillbilly - Cayugas are fine meat birds, and very hardy. Oh, FYI, some can in fact fly. I've seen mine do it. I have different ducks now, but I still trim Khaki females wings, they also fly at will.

I'll be gone tonight, there is a school fundraiswer with comedians, beer and wine tasting, auctions, and food. Need I say more? LOL Dh and I are gonna go play.
yay for Date night!

very pretty babies!

I wait till the gander and one goose are out, then go in and kick the other goose out while hubby watches my back. Pull the eggs I want and move on. We have 1 goose I won't mess with though, she is naughty.

Aw, its so great that your hatching so many lovely sebs.

Hes a handsome fellow! What color are his recent ancestors? I'm a terrable person to guess at this. No experience whatsoever. But, I'd guess blue or gray, but like I said, what do I know?

Thanks, Sue.

Mohillbilly, she ships with a heat pack so no worries about frozen eggs. I'm telling ya, this lady knows what she is doing!!! I tossed all eggs (quitters, non developers) this morning (Sorry, Erin!!).... the only thing that remains are 7 of 10 eggs from Carole.

As for cayugas, I love them so much more than my anconas. They are very calm and friendly. I'm told they are good meat birds, but are harder to process because of dark skin. Not sure though, as I do not personally eat waterfowl. I also have a single silver appleyard that is calm like the cayugas. I am told they are very good meat birds too.
yes but there is other eggs I want to get to set with them and they don't put heat packs in.

around here they will only fly up 6 feet as they will run into the top of their pen or 12 feet if they are in the orchard for the same reason.

Oh and one other thing My incubator will hold between 125-200 goose eggs or about 300 chicken eggs. and I like to run it full.
