Here we go again - I'm hatching more goslings!!

Marty

Largest closest in the picture is your girl, next largest back left is your gander.
Smallest looking away is the girls gander, and the one up front talking in the picture is the girls goose. (double check their bands on the little ones) all 4 have bands for perm ID, right wing they are brass and maybe 1" long.

Iain to cross out of breed to create a new color would require multiple years of breeding back in to obtain breed standard again.

Sex link colors are only true when the color is attached only to the X or Y chromosome. I can go pull notes and really get into it if you like? We cross grey ganders to buff, lilac and lavender females with Sebastopols for improved body type.

Our McGraw is a grey and a buff gene carrier.

A grey gander x buff goose = 50% grey males split buff and 50%grey females split buff

A buff gander x grey goose = 50% grey males split buff and 50% buff females

Those are based on the Sebastopols, And all of the thanks goes to Pete for spending hours putting the color charts together for us to help with the colors.

Animal, yes Carole ships, our 4 arrive today from her. Prices are very reasonable.
We have babies available now, I just haven't listed them.

more hatching now through Saturday as well. Two more hatches next week.
Erin congrats on the hatches, by the way what are you going to do with all of those babies?
Jerry/sue hope the new goslings perk up quickly
Mo.. Nice bator, I say an empty bator is a sad bator.

Well the Buff one we will definatly keep, DH loves the buff...And the rest will probably stay also, sometimes we sell them as adults and get $30 a pc. for them at a swap meet over in IN. That is what we did one yr. I have never shipped goslings, and would probably bawl my eyes out if one didn't make it, so we just sell locally. But if my son attaches to all of them, we are out of luck and all will be staying..which is fine with me!

Thanks, Celtic. Maybe at some point I'd like to understand it better. Right now, I'm trying to weigh my options for completing my gosling flock. I have one buff and 6 grey eggs on day 23 (expecting 3-4 to make it). I have 1 more buff egg on day 10 but it is not looking good. So I am debating on buying a pair of buff goslings from Carole, to have 3-4 of each color. However, if there is value to pairing Barley with a grey for color sex-linked babies, that is an option?

And then I have Chicory, my Erin toulouse (which could carry a buff gene?) and 3 grey toulouse (plus my younger african from your eggs). I go back and forth about turning the toulouse & african out onto horse pasture with my first set (but I may want to sex them and keep a toulouse for Chicory?). Then again, what is value of keeping any of the utility toulouse separated from mixed free range flock??

Decisions, decisions!

Vicki, I'm going to let Celtic advise as she is our resident sebbie hatcher. Best of luck on a healthy baby hatching soon!!!!!!!

I wanted to mention that I hope you stay on Renee' about the cayuga eggs. I had to sweet talk her last week into sending me 4 eggs that were a few days old. She was worried they would not develop since they were not super fresh, but as of the start of day 6, 3 of 4 have spiders. She said that since her hen is laying, she could send you 4 at a time or wait until the others start laying in the summer if you wanted more eggs at once. Just an FYI.
Lain, Thank you so much for the info! I will get with her right now. It looks like my other Cayugas aren't going to hatch.

Rub a dub dub, 4 sebs in a tub!

Celtics babies got here and I was called just after 5:30 this morning. I dashed over to get them, and put them straight into the tub. They had a very happy 1/2 hour recovering, and then I put them in a box to dry, and now they are outside in a large unused dog run, nipping grass, and enjoy the food and water out there.

The girls were extremely delighted to find them in the tub, and are sure the little ones are supposed to be theirs. (which I think is accurate) They love how friendly they are, and the big white looking one is very bold and loves to chatter. I sat out with them, and he's a nice little lap baby. (I took the day off to watch over the babies, and be sure they are settled safely) Besides, I have a sinus infection and my tummy feels ucky and unhappy.
sooo cute! congrads!
Thank you so much!! I just can't wait to see it! I feel better knowing that it may take a while.
at least they'er not Embdens....32 days = lots of waiting
