Here we go again - I'm hatching more goslings!!

Okay.....so today day 11 for my American Buff eggs. I have been weighing them with a postage scale in ounces and converting to grams. Did I screw up since it is only telling me weight to the tenth....like 4.7 oz....should I have done it to more decimal places or even better gotten a scale that told me grams??

So......these are my weights, what do you think...what do I do humidity wise and misting wise? Pretty sure two and three are duds. The rest have wonderful veins running through them:

My target weight is estimated at 15% weight loss, not 16%. Should I change the target weights?

And.....the ones that are just a little under or over each lost about 2 oz each. The ones that have a big difference lost only 1 ounce.

Bayjay, 9 spiders out of 11?!?!?!?!?! That is so impressive!!!!!!!!! Congrats!!!!!

I would do 16%, not 15%. Also, I'm not sure how converting weight from ounce to gram will affect the numbers. But if you are not reaching your target weight, then keep your bator humidity where it is, begin mist/cool (for 5 minutes) once a day for the next week and see if the rate of loss improves.

So, what type of scale do you use?

And, what do you guys do when your egg weights are so different.....do you have more than one bator running, and you put the ones that are losing more weight in one and the ones losing less weight in another?

These are my weight loss data adjusted for 16% weight loss:

I use a martha stewart digital kitchen scale. Any idea if the eggs that are losing more weight than others are on the outside areas of your bator?

Most people use a bator with a fan for cooking to evenly circulate temp and moisture, and the eggs tend to lose weight at the same rate regardless of size. Since I use an LG still air, I like to move the eggs around from time to time during cooking period. I tend to come in between 14-16% loss for my hatches, although I would have preferred a 17% loss for the dewlaps, in hindsight.

Ooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhh....I will go look at where they are at. Didn't even think about that. What about the ones that have to be at the edge in little cups.

SO much to learn and retain! :)

I have posted some goose pics on hatch day, but here they are for my goosy buddies too..... Also, seeking others experience with goose eye problems. One of the buff babies has a swollen eye, that has a bit of clear liquid. I've rinsed with mild salt water solution, but I think it may need more.

THIS IS THE BUFF GOOSE WITH EYE ISSUES! THOUGHTS?
