Unfortunately, I never knew Bob and from what I read, it's my great loss.

I'm the third generation in a family that has bred for production above all else. The fourth, my son, is hell bent on producing and exhibiting NNs bred to the Standard of perfection and I'm determined to help him all the way.

Does "NN" mean Naked Necks? If so, in what color?

Is it that you want to make the birds shorter or select for deeper keels?

When I think about a good Sussex I see long wide bodies and deep keels. Legs slightly off center with a slight slope of the back shifting the weight to the legs.

I picture a dressed bird laying flat on a plate. If that makes any sense. Kind of a cinder block a little out of level.

Too me it is there depth that makes them appear low as much as anything.

Exactly right. I want to make them look a bit more Dorking while still maintaining the
Sussex SOP. I want a bit more low stationed "bottle" shape.

Look in the CSU thread about 3to4 months back there was a section devoted to the Campines that is about as far as i can get you.

My Columbian Wyandotte have no brassiness from their many hours in the sun. They choose to stretch out in the sun along side the Australorps. the Cochins prefer to find a shady spot.

Bob also talked about the "stay white" gene. How the eb based Columbians would stay white like yours if they inherited that factor/gene. I am not sure if it really was a particular gene or a simple threshold event/factor of some kind. I guess a veteran breeder could explain it better than I.

EDIT: We have some reasonably good birds from the accepted colors but neither of us is crazy about the color buff.

From talking to one of the highly recommended Canadian breeders of white Chanteclers, it appears they are highly susceptible to Marek's. He said he vaccinates everything at hatch. I am more in line with the hatchet and lice powder train of thought, so not sure what my next step will be. Still pursuing the breed, and working out the details to get some of his birds (he can only get me hatching eggs) but I may have to get more than originally planned and possibly from multiple sources to account for potential mortality. Not that I have had any issues with Marek's here, but...

While this might be true of some strains in some locations I have not seen this ever mentioned in my years of research and now owning these birds... just sayin'
