Hey ya'll! I recently took in some chickens because a family member was moving to Houston Texas and couldn't take them! So after getting them one of the hens decided to set on an egg! Well tomorrow is day 21 and yesterday she stopped sitting on it! I candled it this afternoon and saw movement! I have no idea what I am suppose to do! Is she still suppose to be setting on it or since its so hot outside it is ok, temp here is about 93. I also received an incubator so I was wondering if I should put the egg in it to take over the process! But I have know idea how to incubate an egg this far along in the process! I really need some help!! I will glad take any advice anyone can give me! Please help my three daughters and I were very excited about hatching a baby chicken but now we are scared! PLEASE, I NEED ADVICE!!

I am so sorry I don't know what to tell you...I am sure someone else will know. I am just replying so your post will still stay 'up top' of the list of topics. I would go ahead and plug in the incubator and let it be warming up, just in case. Good luck!

from PA!

I don't know what to do about the egg. I've read posts here on BYC where some women have put it in their bra and carried it around there!

This is a strange place, I know, but hey - it worked for them!

Thanks for replying! I have already plugged in the incubator just in case I am going to be using it! The bra idea, I have to laugh but that actually was the first thing that popped into my head!!

Get the incubator fired up and put the egg in it. If the chicks is still moving it is possible it can still hatch. I have done this several times with turkeys as the hen will hatch some poults and then leave the nest with more eggs in it that haven't hatched yet. Good luck.

Ok, so I have decided that Ms. Hannah Montana (The Momma Chicken) has decided to give up after her 3 long weeks of never leaving her egg! So I have turned on the incubator added water to the tray but that is about as much as I know! I didn't recieve any instructions with the incubator and have not used one in years!! Plus all the chicken eggs we ever tried never hatched! We only had luck with are ducks!! So the incubator is an Hova-Bator Incubator Model # 1602N. I have know idea what temp I should have it at and both of my red vent caps are missing! Someone told me I needed to tape one up, well is that true and which one!! If anyone has done this before, takin over at the very end I need your help or if you own a Hova-Bator Incubator 1602N, HELP!!

I got my incubator up to 100, got tape on my vents and put the egg inside! I went to lock up the pen and my momma hen is in her box! Now, I feel awful cause I took her babe! I am thinking that she knew it was hot enough out today that she didn't need to sit on it and now that is night, she does! Now my girls wanna put it back in the nesting box! If it doesn't hatch I am gonna feel like it is my fault!!
