Hey Grandpa, What's for Supper? Part 2

We had mozz sticks for new years. I make them occassionally. I will find my recipe. Tonight is bbq steak, baked beans, corn. Monica

Monica -

I don't know of that article, but that is something I would be interested in reading. I had something similar from a local newspaper and also misplaced it.

It had a bunch of recipes for chicken breasts where you just changed out the seasonings but the process to make them was the same no matter what seasonings were used. Then those could be repeated into different meals.

If you locate it, please share.

baked beans here tonight. Might add a few different things, IF I can ever get to the store and do a full shopping trip. lol

What are the main things in your kitchen that you refuse to run out of? Need help keeping my pantry organized. One month, I have too much flour, then next month, cant keep it stocked up. etc.
I always have to have sugar, coffee and canned milk.

cknmom and Backyard Buddies... I found an article like that in a Sunset magazine some years ago. It's still around here somewhere ..maybe in the garage? ...I'll see if I can locate it. This one is several recipes using a roasted vegetable mix ..Chicken one night, pizzas another, lasagna another and so on.. so not identical, but similar idea.

If you two find your versions, I'd love to have copies!

skand... here's a short list of some of the "must have at all times" in my pantry and elsewhere:

-Bread flour and whole wheat, too
-Cornmeal
-Sea Salt and extra spices/herbs (ie., peppercorns, paprika, dry thyme, oregano, basil, parsley ...stuff that doesn't do well in my little herb garden all year long, etc.)
-Sugar and honey
-Tea and coffee beans
-Rice ..short/jasmine and long/basmati
-Potatoes, onions, garlic
-Red, black, white/navy, pinto beans ..lentils or splits, too
-Various cuts of "canned" tomatoes.. diced, crushed, sauce...
-Pasta sauce
-Pasta.. quick cook lasagna, spaghetti, elbows, etc.
-Carrots, mushrooms, cabbage
-Frozen spinach, collards, green beans, petite peas, whole kernel corn
-Chicken (breasts, whole, wings) and ground beef
-Pound of Tillamook Colby cheese
-Eggs (my girls aren't laying yet)
-Milk
-EVOO and vegetable oil
-Butter

These are things I cannot run out of ..cuz no matter what, I can pull together some kind of dinner out of these ingredients ..and for a few days, if necessary.

Wuhoo Yay ME!! I was only missing about 13 of the things on your list Aneesa!!
But 6 of those were ones that I am needing to replenish on my shopping trip, so I guess I havent been doing horribly bad.

Beans are in the oven baking, laundry has started, now to brave the rest of the house. ack!

You are a busy girl today!! Well, when you have kids I should say EVERYDAY is a busy one. Mine are all 17 and older, but I remember those days...and grocery shopping! oy! what a strain that was. I swear I would save 50 dollars at least per trip if I didn't take the kids. lol

Dishes are done now! Also sold 10 chicks. yay!
Must....finish,.... grocery...list... oh look! a speck of dust! Must change plans! lol

We had chicken paprikash over dumplings tonight with a simple salad.

Redfeathers - to make mozzarella sticks, cut 1 pound of mozzarella into 1 x 2 x 1/2 inch thick sticks. Put 1 cup breadcrumbs (plain or seasoned) in a bowl, and 3 beaten eggs in another bowl. Dip cheese in eggs then breadcrumbs two times. Place on a cookie sheet with waxed paper cover and freeze at least 1 hour or overnight. Fry in oil @ 375 degrees until golden. drain.

To add to Anessa's list, I would be lost without vinegar (cider, white, and balsamic), bacon, tuna and Parmesan cheese.

How did those mozz sticks turn out? I love those. Tell me how you did them...????

Tonight we are having steak fajitas and mexican rice.

They turned out great! Thanks for asking.

Happyhens recipe is pretty close to what I did. Instead of cutting cheese from a block, I used string cheese sticks and cut them in half. I seasoned my bread crumbs. Also I dipped them in egg, then flour, then egg again, then the crumbs. I froze them for 30 minutes and used the french fry setting on my deep fryer. My family loved them!

skand The corn chowder was fantastic. DH was pretty hesitant about it but after one bite he said, Oh Hey, thats good! So thanks for the recipe!
