Hey Grandpa, What's for Supper? Part 2

Last night was Chinese take out.

I had Wanton soup, Crab Rangoon and Sweet and Sour Pork.

We grilled burgers and pineapple.
I made the most beautiful burger, but I had to squish it down to fit into my mouth.
Then all the pickles and mushrooms squirted out the sides and took the cheddar cheese with it.

Awwwwww.....don't you hate it when that happens? Oh, well, at least you got to see it when it looked like you intended it look. Just once I'd like to walk into a food joint, point at an item on the menu, say, "I'll have that." and then have it come to me looking like it did on the picture. <Sigh> The dreams of youth!

Tonight will be the fam favorite - they're all coming over for dinner so we'll do a huge Apple Spiced Pork Roast, mashed taters, green beans, hot rolls, and of course my sauerkraut.

Last night we attended lu'au night at the local university, where my nephew (who is most definitely not a Pacific Islander) danced in three numbers - two hulas and a haka. The food was pretty good for an event that served 1200 people. All the usuals - lomi lomi salmon, kahlua pork, shoyu chicken, a noodle dish, couple of rice dishes, salads, fresh pineapple, and fresh guava juice.

Night before last hubs grilled a tri-tip, served with roasted baby yukon golds and carrots, and a green salad.

So I have 2 somewhat picky eaters under 6 yrs old so it has to be a meat, Two veggies and none of it touching or mixed (unless it's spaghettiOs and meatballs ) not much variety here. I did try homemade tacos again last night and at least my 5 yr old ate one that he made. 3 yr old got a bite in his mouth and spit it out- ham sandwich for him!

Tonight is the potluck that my husband has for his greenhouse management class each semester.
It is always fun.
You would think people would just blow it off, but it is the highlight of their semester.

There is always a lot of specialty ethnic foods -which I love- and the traditional covered dish favorites.
We always bring sliced roasted pork loin and dessert. This time, I made a honey cake -since the bees did such a wonderful job this spring, I have to share their efforts.
