Hey Grandpa, What's for Supper? Part 2

last night was take out from the little local place, hoagie and chef salad. Tonight we were at grams and the little one was hungry so we ended up eating leftovers there. He had chicken noodle soup and a pork chop and I had corn chowder and a chicken salad sandwich. #1 son was gone...again

It has been a busy week here. Our grandsons have been with us the last 3 days so not much work gets done, but we sure have fun.
Sadly, we didn't have a Memorial Day picnic this year. Your yummy holiday menu sure make me wish we did. We did grill steaks and they were especially good.
Tuesday, as our oldest grandson requested, it was Taco Day.
Wednesday, I needed something quick so it was eggs, sausage patties, fried potatoes and toast with fresh strawberry jam.
Today, I fixed a roast with carrots, mashed potatoes and gravy. My grandsons helped with a chocolate layered dessert. Among other ingredients, chocolate pudding, cool whip and mini chocolate chips - what kid wouldn't like that?

They like helping in the kitchen.

I was too tired to make dinner after being out in the hot sun planting melons, so SO took over. He made some salmon, mac & cheese, a salad and artichokes from the garden. For desert his son made brownies from a mix, but he always doctors it up. Tonight he added chocolate chips and extra walnuts. I'll have watermelon for desert as well or maybe strawberries, since we have plenty of both.

Yesterday was DH birthday so I made his favorite, Hungarian Goulash.

My "baby" graduates 8th grade tonight so I think we will just have some quick and easy leftovers so we can get all gussied up and back to town by 6! Where does the time go!? I hope everyone here had a great week, I can't believe its over all ready!

You did Wednesday Breakfast for Dinner! It's contagious!

She's right! I caught it too! It really is a great idea and it feels good to know you all ready have a plan for that day.

Every other Tuesday(because of DH work) we enjoy Taco Tuesday at the local diner. So on the opposite Tuesday I do something Mexican, well I try to! It narrows down the options and makes it easier to come up with something.

Now what can we name the other days....

Happy birthday to your DH and congratulations to your "baby." My DS also graduates from 8th grade in two weeks. I can't believe he's going off to HS! Yes, the time does fly, so enjoy each and every moment of it. In a blink of an eye, they'll be graduating HS! Take lots of pix!

I do like that idea of having "theme" nights. Mexican is always a good one and there are so many different options besides tacos and burritos. I like doing carnitas (easy crockpot meal) and soups the best. Enchiladas are another good option, but I don't really like eating that much cheese!

What are some other "theme" ideas? Chicken night? Pasta night? Soup night? Casserole night? and of course, anything like Chinese night or Italian night. What else?

Could have "try something new" night.
We had chinese night last night. I made prawns with snowpeas and water chestnuts, steamed rice, fried rice, fried noodles, miso soup and a green salad with toasted sesame seed oil dressing. Most of the vegetables came from our garden. I only had to buy the prawns and the water chestnuts. Everything else was on hand. for desert we had sugared strawberries over homemade pound cake. An aunt had made the pound cake and the strawberries had been given to us by FIL.
I once mentioned to FIL that we can always use rice, so he brings us plenty of white rice. We probably have enough for at least a year.

I would buy brown rice, but since we have the white, I use it.
I took ground beef out for tonight's dinner. I'm thinking of making spaghetti, unless SO decides to cook.
Whatever we're having, there'll be a salad. About three weeks ago we had to harvest all our lettuce, because the field got plowed. We cleaned it and stored it in plastic bags in the fridge. It is holding up quite well.

Could do different country themes.
German: bratwurst or frankfurters, with saurkraut and mashed potatoes, with a salad with a plain oil and vinegar dressing and fruit for desert.
Also what about fish/seafood night? Or vegetarian night? Desert for dinner?
I tend to build my meals around either what I took out of the freezer or what I need to harvest from the garden.
