Dreamy, those are just a sampling of my new babies. I've got new babies like you would not believe. Some 38 new baby orps and a batch in the bator coming up in 3 weeks. The gas prices and the feed bill is killing me!
This morning I am taking my dog to a Stock Dog Association play day. (where we work the dogs on goats and cows.) Then I have to till the garden during nap time for my boys, then I need to clean the house for the UFC fight night we have company coming over for tonight. Somewhere along the way I need to figure out what to prepare for dinner for the ten guests we'll have tonight because DW won't be home until just before it starts.
We're having French dip sandwiches tonight, with coleslaw. I really like them, but tend to forget about them! It's just about ready, and I have raspberry sorbet for dessert!
Redfeathers, if they do that again, tell them you won't be there when they get back; you'll be here with me, having fun and munching treats!
That *is* cool, purr! I love them! I make cranberry sauce, cranberry loaves, cranberry-cinnamon swirl bread, cranberry chicken etc.! Mmmmm! What do you want to can?
Yogi!!! Wow, just in time! I was going through all my money to pay that ransom; that's a lot of pennies, too! ; )
You sound really busy, and there's nothing like hot weather to sap your energy, and cut time in the kitchen! It's good to see you!
Buster, I'm sorry I wasn't here earlier today. How did you make out; what did you guys serve all those guests? My sister brings in Subway, for times like those! I think they have platters of mixed sandwiches for parties and such. Maybe we should plan ahead for the next time! What type of dog do you have?
OK Tutter, you have a deal! Hope you like Irish Setters, they would have to come too.
Tonight we had Chicken sandwiches with all the fixins. Nobody was very hungry due to a late lunch, so I didn't make anything with them... I might hunt down some chocolate soon though.
Whew, we just finished up supper around here. Guess it can't get much more "southern" than what we had tonight!!!
Fresh hog, cooked over an open flame, all day long
Potato salad
Pinto beans cooked over the same fire
We thought that would be plenty, then a friend comes over with a sack FULL of HUGE bullfrogs! They skinned them right there, threw the legs in some foil with some butter and seasonings, and threw that on the coals. Let me tell ya, that was good!!!
I took a picture of DD holding one of those suckers, and it was HUGE! If I could figure out how to get my pics from my phone to the net, I would! She got upset because we (they) skinned them. She wanted to keep one as a pet!

Ya know, the only time I've ever eaten frogs legs was when I lived in Florida. I can honestly say that I've never seen them in a restaurant here in Cali. That's part of the reason I enjoy this post. I love reading about all the regional cooking styles, let alone all the different words we use for the same thing (supper vs. dinner, BBQ vs. cookout, etc).
We took our son and his friends to the movies and a late lunch to celebrate DS's bday so I'm not hungry for dinner. And, we have so many leftovers that I won't be cooking tomorrow, either!
Well, tonight was time to catch up on some comfort food after chicken salad sandwiches, peanut butter sandwiches, and cesars salads. How's a body supposed to live on that kind of eating?
So it was:
Fried Pork Chops - Yum! Yum!
Butter Beans with smoked pork ribs - Oh yeah!
Mustard Greens - Of course!
Rice - Yep
Cornbread - Gotta have that with mustard greens!
Sweet Tea
If it got any better than that I probably couldn't stand it.
Tutter:
Remind me that I have a recipe for grilled corn that a chef friend of mine passed on to me that I want to share with everyone. I have not yet had the opportunity to try it but he says that it is to die for.
