Hey Grandpa, What's For Supper?

Man oh man, am I ever jealous of all this "homegrown" tomatoes, squash, corn and the like. I've got my garden in, but it is only just now getting up into the 70s and staying sunny everyday here. My squash do have blossoms and a few of my dozens of tomato plants have started to blossom, but the only thing I'm harvesting out of my garden is the green onions. I might could get some lettuce if the snails didn't keep eating it down to the ground every few days. GRRRR. They always seem to find a way around that snail bait.

As for my dinner tonight, DS made one of my own concoctions consisting of ground beef, onion, cr of mush soup and rice, all cooked together, sliced store-bought tomato and cuc salad and sweet tea.

Blurose, you may be jealous now but just think, when all of our plants are no longer producing you will still be eating fresh.

That concoction sounds good, I will have to try that. It brought back a memory of a dish I have not fixed in years. Ground beef, potatos (sliced really thin), pork and beans and onion. My kids loved it.

yeah sounds like my hamburg gravy havn't made that in years. yum
It was my grandmother's recipe.

Well the drywallers are gone and the painting has begun, so still can't get at the kitchen. So tonite i have a pot roast i'm putting in the rottisere( can't spell) with potato salad and steamed broccoli.

oh who mentioned creamed corn, when DH and i were at the lineman's rodeo last year in kansas city we had this delicious baked i think corn dish it was so good does anyone know what that's called and how to cook it. I can't wait months to get some more.

DH & DS have been hogging the computer, so haven't been able to get on for a while. Oh boy, everyone is cooking up some good eatin' here!. For Father's Day, DH got his favorite - grilled lamb chops with apricot/honey mustard sauce, roasted mustard potatoes, fresh corn, and artichokes w/garlic aioli dipping sauce. For dessert I made a new recipe - peach, plum & blueberry crositini - Yummy! served warm with ice cream.
Last night we went out to dinner - yeah! And tonight we're going to a friend's house to hang out w/a bunch of people from our son's class. We're just going to order chinese and watch a movie on their big screen (and I mean truly big screen - it's a screen that they set up in front of their garage and we all sit in our lawn chairs to watch. Like our very own drive-in!). I'm going to bring an angel food cake with raspberry sauce for dessert - light and easy!
Good cooking, everyone,
Liz

DH came home Fri. and brough some bug with him, we have both been sick all weekend, still not up to par. But I have been bbqing all weekend! Father's day I bbqed london broil with a dry rub and made homemade herb and butter noodles. Chocolate tornado ice cream cones for dessert.
Depends on how I feel later as to what we have tonite.

Tonight will be Swiss steak, and mashed potatoes. I'm not sure what else yet.

I pound seasoned flour into the steak, then brown it. To the pan I add "planked" carrots, onion, bell pepper pieces etc., then liquid which is seasoned. You get such tender meat and vegetables, with a great "gravy" for the potatoes.

I'm sorry you guys have been sick, Cknmom.

Lizardz, I don't know where to begin, so I'll just say, wow! That's some great sounding food. And I can't believe you said, 'just Chinese', I love Chinese food! Especially with an angelfood cake. I make them when I can, and almost always make a berry sauce for it, too.

I do know of corn casseroles, purr. Was it anything like a savory custard?

I, too, used to make that dish, Blurose. It's tasty!

All these presents! Corn and blueberries for, BamaChicken, and a tiller for, 2dream. What nice surprises!

There you go again with the corned beef, Yogi, making me hungry so early in the morning! Mmmm!

Did you break back into the rhubarb pie, Backyard Buddies? Sounds good to me!

Sounds yummy, Tutter! I haven't gotten motivated yet to think about dinner, so you're way ahead of me! I am going to make more of MissP's yogurt in a few here, but beyond that I haven't done an ounce of thinking. This is the first full day off from school for the kids where I didn't have a load of things to do. It's nice to just chill!

As for the pie, you betcha! And, there's still some left. But, since it was for Father's Day, and hubby's specific request, he gets what's left.

That's what's happening with the Father's Day cake here. Dh will get what's left.

Well, thankfully, by having my menu made up, and having what I need, ingredient-wise, I'm on auto-pilot.

Congratulations on the vacation time!

That's what I need to do, make more yogurt. I was about to go to town to mail a box, now I can get the milk while there! Thanks!

Have a great day!

I need to hit the grocery store soon, I'm down to a few choices in the pantry. (Teenagers out of school leave the pantry cleaned out)

It's probably going to be split pea soup with carrots, ham and onions. Biscuits on the side. The weather is mild, it's overcast with a high of 68 so it's not too hot for a hearty soup.

Swiss steak sounds heavenly. Thank you for the great idea, I'll get the stuff to make that when I go into town.

I'm in pantry-cleaning mode this week, until payday Friday. Makes it challenging! Last night was spinach pasta alfredo, which was pretty good.

Tonight, it's lasagna. I'm making "Pioneer Woman's" recipe this time, with some modifications for better, fresher, ingredients:

I think I saw, when I was rooting around the cupboards, a yellow cake mix, so I may whomp that up with some lemon juice in the mix and then lemon icing on top.
