How does the Queen of Hearts put it?

Off with their heads!

We would be eating Guineas here for that stunt.

Leaning towards making Pasties here tomorrow depends on if I can get to town and get back fast LOL. (going with my sister and that just does not happen LOL)

Pasties are

Ground Chuck
rutabga's
carrots
potatoes
onions
and seasonings

all mixed together and in their own crust (think turnoverbut with a pie crust) and baked. Freeze really well for those days that you need quick, easy, good, and hot. I can't keep them in the freezer as the kids take them when they come and visit.

Most people eat them with ketcup, alone or some will put gravy on them. They make great Fund raisers.

Well DD took first place in her weight class (70) and age group (12+) at wrestling!!! So we went out to a local pizza place! She wore her medal with much pride!

Congrats on the win geckomama!!!!

We'd do the off with thier heads too, except we can't catch them. Too dang fast n feathery for me! lol

I'll head to the store after church this mornin and see what inspires me for dinner. lol

geckomama - congrats to your DD on her win....and you too!

redfeathers - would you care to share that applesauce cake recipe? I had a recipe from my great- grandmother that "disappeared" a long time ago, and have yet to find one we really like.

Zookeeper - I'd be stealing those Pasties too! Yummm! Do you freeze before or after baking them?

skand - how's the roo doin'?

"Brown" meatloaf (I make about 4 different kinds) tonight with mashed potatoes, green beans and apple crisp with ice cream.

We had a break in the weather (above freezing with some sun) so I spent a chunk of time cleaning the coop and run really well before the nasty weather returns tomorrow afternoon. Yuckk. I just hope an early winter means an early spring.

I have pureed tomatoes, ground chuck, mushrooms, green bell pepper, onion, garlic, bunch of fresh herbs from the garden ...all in the crockety'pot for sauce.

I also have a whole young chicken awaiting the spice decision, as I am torn ...but I have some asparagus, an artichoke and a large eggplant that needs to accompany something ...so we shall see..

..and since a I got such a great deal on mushrooms yesterday, I will be making an Ethiopian Stewed Mushroom recipe ...and pick up some injeera (sourdough flat bread) fresh from a local specialty market... add some other steamed/stewed vegetables ..and we'll have that sometime this week, as well.

Oh.. and I have fresh goat cheese, fresh chives and some smoked wild salmon for rolls... and I'm not sharing with DH (cuz he doesn't eat such nasty things

)

I'm making all these random meals and things cuz I have to stay ahead of the migraine monster that kicks my butt with varying barometric pressure. Sucks... but at least I still have the sense to take advantage of the "good days"

Aneesa - Can you share that stewed mushroom recipe? My family loves foods from North Africa (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Egypt), and they love mushrooms so it sounds like a hit in my house already!

I sure hope your migraine stays away!

Zookeeper - Thanks! That sounds like a great weekend activity with my DD. We can make up a bunch and she can take them back to college with her (minus a few I keep for me!). Healthier and tastier than Hot Pockets!

Tonight we had a pork roast with garlic cloves pushed into the meat. I slow roasted it with carrots and made gravy for mashed potatos with the drippings. Oh man....twas gooooood!

HappyHen...here is that applesauce cake recipe. It was so moist and had excellent flavor.

2 Cups Flour
1 Cup Sugar
1 Teaspoon Salt
1 Teaspoon Cinnamon
1 1/2 Teaspoons pumpkin pie spice. Or sub with nutmeg, cloves..ect
2 Teaspoons Baking Soda
1/2 Cup melted butter or margarine
2 Cups applesauce
1/2 to 3/4 cups of raisins (optional)
1 Cup Walnuts (optional)

Mix dry together, add wet and bake for half an hour in a sprayed or greased 9x13. Bake on 350. (no eggs are needed for this recipe)

Very dense and moist. You can top with cream cheese frosting, but I just topped with powdered sugar and it was perfect.

Oh yummy! You guys are cookin' up some great stuff!

Redfeathers - I KNOW that pork roast must have been good! That's exactly what I made a few days ago and it was the best thing I've tasted in a while. There are still some leftovers in the fridge that I can't wait to get to!

Aneesa's Muse - Recipe requested for the Ethiopian stew, please! A good friend dated a gal from Ethiopia and we once went up to LA for some authentic food. It was amazing! (Aside: My friend is no longer dating this gal, which is too bad. Instead of staying single all his life, this is the ONE he should have married.

She was such a sweet gal!) Anyway, is injeera the pancake like bread with the holes in it? She explained to us how it is made and it doesn't sound too difficult.

geckomama - Congrats on your daughter's win! I think it's fabulous!

I'll be pulling leftovers out of the fridge here in a minute. I need to make room for the whopping big turkey I'm going to pick up tomorrow.

Redfeathers - Thanks!

My great-grandmother's cake was very moist and dense, spicy, with raisins and nuts. No eggs. This sounds so close my mouth is watering. I'll let you know tomorrow. I can't wait to try this!
