While the enthusiasm is appreciated, be aware that Venice La is at the very end of a (one)single hwy. As such right now it is not easy to get in or out of. Very limited or no accomodations at all. At this point I would even go so far as to say, they ain't space left to park a camper. I have "once removed" family in the Venice/Boothville La area, came to my home yesterday morning, normal drive time is about 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours, yesterday the drive was 5 hours. You have marsh bounded by levee on the west side and Ms river bounded by levee on the east, total width of the "dry land" at places is less than 1/4 mile
This situation is much like the Katrina response in that area, lots of people want to help, but thier is a limit to how many rescue/clean up people that can be usefully supported/employed in that area.
My advice would be to check out coastal areas in Ms, Al, and Fl in the end I think the impact of the spill is going to be far greater in those states that it is in La. If you look at a map, the rig was offshore of La officially, but actually south of Biloxi MS, Mobile Al.
Also you guys might want to send up a prayer for calm seas. High winds from any direction will hinder any work.
I got to agree with jim cowboy. Right now every one in La is only a few steps removed from somebody that was either on the rig or lost on the rig.
edited to add----
every one from Ms, Al, Tx and La are only a few steps removed------- the guys that work offshore come from all over---------
