Hey southerners! Anyone else want to go wash oily birds?

I wish i still lived down there..i'd help in a heartbeat.. I feel so bad.
My father worked at Port Manatee in Florida (hes retired now..)..and he was the head mechanic supervisor there.... (its where the rigs bring the oil in..)
Hes sad about this too.. its just such a sad thing all around..for the families and for the innocent animals that are going to suffer and die.

About the Dawn dish liquid thing, I bought some awhile back because they claim they donate to wildlife. Small print on the label, you have to get online and enter a code for them to make the donation.

I didn't get around to doing it. I'm betting next to no one even notices, much less actually does it. What a scam.
Unfortunately they're still going to get a lot of sales because it *is* the best product for cleaning wildlife.

Thanks OT! I used to buy Dawn and saw that on the bottle too. I have actually went to the site and "registered" my dish washing liquid...stupid that I have to, but I did. Now i get the cheap stuff though. Just as good, and costs less. Wonder why the wild life rehabbers don't buy the cheaper liquid? It is the same or I wouldn't use it.

I'd donate some to the cause

The cheaper stuff doesnt work as well..IMO...

Well I have only found one kind that does, and it's the WalMart Dawn rip off. It's just as good to me. Some of the others are too watered down it seems. If you haven't already you might want to try it

I HATE Palmolive and Joy and those others too!

I'd volunteer with the paper towels if it would really help!!!!!!!

It is a very bad situation with the oil spill, and the price of gasoline going up this week, and all the stuff that goes along with an oil spill. But this was a very tragic accident that cost 11 men their lives and I think instead of complaining about a few more cents at the gas pump more people should be praying for the families that lost their loved ones in this tragic accident. I'm sorry if this comes across as kind of short but my brother-in-law worked on that oil rig and he was scheduled to go back to work the very next day after the explosion so you can all imagine just how close to home this is to our family at this time, and you never know some of the men who lost their lives in this tragedy could have family members on this group and I am sure you can imagine how they would feel if they saw people complaining more about the cost of gas and making jokes about sopping it up with paper towels. Stepping off my soap box now and hope I didn't offend anyone.

Oh and volunteering to help with the animals. Great idea

My cousins father was on that rig, he died trying to help everyone else get off. She is only 14, and had not been able to see him often for years since she lives in Alaska.. She and her mother are coming down soon to stay with some of the family for the memorial service.

I've never tried the Walmart brand, but I think I will, thanks for the tip Cindi! I think it's good Dawn gives the choice of whether or not to donate. While the Dawn program seems to be a good one, there are numerous products, magaziines, etc., I won't buy due to donations to Animal Rights groups I dont support.

I think we are MANY years (like 50+) away from finding an AFFORDABLE totally renewable green energy source, doubt most of us will see that in our livetimes.

This is one of the WORST man-made enviromental disasters EVER! 20000 gallons a day are spewing from that well. The fishing season is OVER, and the impact it is going to have on the gulf coast is sickening. I wish I could get down there to help, but too many responsibilities here to leave.

Anyway- if you're a seafood eater- better go fill your freezer now because it's going to be gone.
