The only chickens I raised were Blacktailed White Japanese, they were show chickens. I also had other breeds but that was many years ago!
I raise pheasants, quail and prairie chickens now days.
Other members could give you better advice about what breeds, age, coops, etc than I can but thanks for asking. Sorry I can't be of better help.

I love composting, its why I have chickens, they can turn a leaf compost from a 2 year project to a 6 month adventure.
