Hi there, my name is Dawn Hutchins,
I wanted to introduce myself and answer the questions!

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

I've had chickens for almost two years. I rescued three from a neighbor that was moving and didn't want them any more. When we were traveling our neighbor watching the chickens left the coop door open overnight one night. One of our chickens was killed and another seriously wounded. After courses of antibiotics and IV fluids administered at home under our vet's care, she recovered beautifully. We now have two more we got August 10th - the second Buff and the Light Brahma.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Four

(3) What breeds do you have?
Two Buffs, an Americauna, and one Light Brahma

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
I'm trying to figure out if my light brahma is actually a roo. I was searching and came across the forum.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Camping, permaculture, reading and yoga!

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We don't have any other pets. My daughter is allergic to dogs and cats and I'd wanted to get some chickens for my permaculture garden. We're plant-based so we don't even really eat the eggs, but I'm not sure my husband will go for having a rooster. I run after-school kids cooking classes in St Johns County, Florida. We're in eight locations in our second year.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
I recently learned about this community during a search and wanted to ask about my chicken in question! I've realized I need to get some better pics!

Hi Dawn and welcome to BYC.

This is a useful link of BYC guides to take a look at announcements-feedback-issues-guides.3 (there's a guide on how to include your location under your avatar - including your location is very helpful). You can use this link to contact members in your area - Find your State's thread.

Best wishes
