Hillybilly Neighbors

Hahaha I made my BF watch it on Christmas Eve! It was his first time. He didn't get it. I ROFL'd

I watch it every year at least once.

P. S. I've been tagged a hillbilly but I think they confuse the word with "tomboy."

Origins of the term "hillbilly" are obscure. According to Anthony Harkins in Hillbilly: A Cultural History of an American Icon, the term first appeared in print in a 1900 New York Journal article, with the definition: "a Hill-Billie is a free and untrammeled white citizen of Alabama, who lives in the hills, has no means to speak of, dresses as he can, talks as he pleases, drinks whiskey when he gets it, and fires off his revolver as the fancy takes him."

The Appalachian region was largely settled in the 18th century by the Scotch-Irish, the majority of whom originated in the lowlands of Scotland. Harkins believes the most credible theory of the term's origin is that it derives from the linkage of two older Scottish expressions, "hill-folk" and "billie" which was a synonym for "fellow", similar to "guy" or "bloke".

Well I don't drink whiskey,I don't own a gun, or live in the hills of Alabama (though I have talked about doing so) . But I dresses as I pleases, talks as I pleases and have very little means of my own. I also have no idea what "untrammeled" is. If it weren't for DW I'd be in the po- hos.

Am I still a hill billie?

me, I'm a redneck and a Mountaineer

Also get called a HillyBilly on a regular basis. And, now that I live in AR, a Yankee

I'm proud to be all the above. I've also had to inform people that I am NOT from Virginia

That's West, by God, Virginia and you'd best remember it....

Is your name Tom and are you a boy? Seems to me if your not named Billie or live in the hills then you can't be any of these things. Your just a girl.

I'm with you! Born and raised in the coal fields close to where the Hatfields and McCoys feuded. Yes it really happened. Oh how I miss there! Still is a place where people will actually stop and help. Give you something to eat if you're hungry. Went to school with Curt Warner. (Seahawks fame). I can make shine. LOL. Hillbilly to me = good people

Hahaha exactly!! Of course it also shocked one of my sisters when I asked for power tools for Christmas. And got them. Along with some quilting supplies...
Call me Amber. Call me Tiny. Call me eclectic. Maybe even a hillbilly tomboy... But don't EVER call me late for dinner!!
*Wouldn't want the hounds to eat it all....*

We're going home to visit in the spring. Haven't been back in about 7years. I'm from Point Pleasant, for all of you who ever watched that crappy MothMan movie

We laugh our butts off every time we watch. It's sooooo not like that. A Motel 6? As if. A female sheriff????? That one floors me every time.

I knew an elderly lady that actually met Frank and Jesse James. She had a gold piece that they gave to her father for letting them spend the night in the barn. They had came in to case the bank in Point, but decided against it because the rivers made an escape route difficult.

I have family that narrowly missed the Silver Bridge collapse as well. My Uncle had just driven off the bridge. My mom was 10 at the time.

Gawd, now I'm feeling all homesick. Definitely an area where the people are genuine and don't care what others may think of them. Distrustful of outsiders and protective of their own.
