I have to put down one of my turkeys; he's my sweet boy and we've been working with him for a long time but as of next week (unless he can perform a turkey miracle) its in his best interest to put him down.

The only bird vet within hours of him is a holistic-style vet. Which is fine they've done so much to help my turkey son.

Please excuse me I don't remember exactly what it was, but she mentioned the way they will euthanize him is with a drop medicine, will take no more than two weeks, and helps him pass naturally. (I think she mentioned it includes a dosage of magnesium?)

Does anyone have experience with this? Is it painless? What should I expect or how can I help him go through it?

Two weeks! I've never heard of it before but I don't see how that could possibly be humane. How does it kill them? Heart failure? Paralysis? I'd go for a quick chop off the head rather than a "natural" death which is really hard to watch and miserable for the bird. I know from experience: they suffer. They look awful. They spend their last moments choking on their own spit.

With proper euthanasia, they never see it coming, they're happy right up until the deed. Pain lasts for seconds at most and then they're gone.

2 weeks to kill him? That doesn't sound humane to me at all. Quick and to the point is most humane but is often hard on the owner. I would seek out a different methods or find someone who is willing to do the deed.

I think you need to consider taking care of him yourself , it’s part of chicken keeping .

Read about different ways you humanly help him not to suffer ...or find someone to do it for you ,

I’m sorry you have to go threw this ❤️

Sounds awful to me! If he's ready to go, adding another TWO WEEKS or more of misery isn't better! 'Natural' is fast!

Exactly! Except he isn't in any pain he just cant walk. Lost all his nerves in his legs so he just chills. Its a long story. I was just wondering if anyone had experience with the magnesium drops in case it DOES give him discomfort of pain.

Well I would imagine it would be a mineral overdose, or mineral poisoning. That can certainly be painful depending on the substance. Organ failure being one.
