sorry forgot to ask...is there a special donut cutter you use?..

I use a donut cutter that I picked up for about $2.00. But before I had it, I used a glass and then something smaller for the holes.

*sigh* ok, I'm making them this week, no time today, I'll let ya'll know how it goes, and I'm going to try making at least a few of them like my grandma did in a smallish to medium flattened ball shape... not a ring. I need to find someplace/someone to share them with first though, that's too many to have in the house at a time! Sharing such things are the BEST though!

You really are a terrible person D-Peep!

Those look absolutely amazing!

I was just going to ask a question about what to use for cutting, but I see it's been answered

I feel dumb asking this, as I've never (gasp!) made doughnuts before...but do you just use a big pot, and pour a certain amount of oil (would Canola work?) in...like, deep enough for the doughnuts to sit in, and flip over?

Sorry for so many questions

I agree, sharing is the best! Think of it as a way to get to know your neighbors! See, I am not so terrible afterall!

No problem. I forgot about some deatils as I am use to making them. I am going to take a picture of my donut cutter. I use canola oil. The pot in the picture is my biggest soup pot. I fill it to just under half with oil. When you "drop" the donuts in, they sink and come right back up. That is how you know the oil is hot enough. It does need to be deep enough for them to do this. Does that make sense?

Yes, that makes sense

I see that I'm going to have to buy the big thing of oil, most likely...I just get the "average" size...whatever size it is that fits pretty well in my pantry, lol!
