Homemade Waterers

I just went out for the umpteenth million time to check on my little ones. I put a 1-liter plastic bottle with a waterer nipple in the cap in the pen for them. I left the regular plastic 1 gal. chicken waterer I bought originally in the pen since I didn't want to stress the little ones out in our heat wave. I wasn't sure how fast they would take to the water nipple bottle. This morning they were standing in line to drink from it. The other waterer still has plenty of water in it. They prefer the water nipples. Go figger.

Here are the two chick waterers. I poked a straight pin hole in the bottom of the bottle (now the top) to prevent vacuum lock.

Waterer in use. The lid is on the pail and turned upside down into the rubber bowl.

Close up of the notches. This is a 3 gal pail.

Hey, I go to the Tom Thumb Grocery Store in Richland every so often for kosher meat.

It's not homemade but it works great! It's an over sized humming bird feeder, I just left the feeding flowers off, and set it up on bricks. The chickens took to it no problem. I change the water daily. I am thinking of using a reptile heating pad under it in the winter to keep it from freezing.

Sorry to laugh about your toad situation but that sounds so funny. I told my wife and she cracked up too. I'm glad you got it figured out and working solid. Very cool.
