Honey Bees in house... THEY'RE BACK!! See #61

that is an awesome hive I want one like that I have hives but no bees yet any advice as to getting the bees to come,I've planted them a flower bed close to the hive and have water out for them, antmore suggestion would be great.really cool hive just wrong place for bee's go figure

dadant is a bee supply place...equipment and bees.

I got my first hives from a farmer getting rid of a few of his.

I belong to the Illinois bee assoc. ....look for your's in your state...you'll find the bee farmers and the ones who have 200 plus hives who may sell you a swarm...and let you come to their farm for a hands on demo.

but my first bunch were carnolians...very docile...good workers.

then i worked up to the italians...a bit more agressive but good foragers.

sometimes they just freeze to death.

sometimes mites get 'em or some other disease.

I've had 2 hives freeze out of four before.

and then you have to call the apiary inspector when owning bees.

ours came out and he helped me with mine...he was really awesome...then in the mail he sent me one of his old veils...how cool is that?

anyway...have fun. Do your research. It's not hard so much as it's a learn as you go kind of thing. It's like owning chickens...once you have them, you learn in a hurry.
