So exciting! You can remove water with a syringe if the humidity is too high but don’t worry too muchWELL! We are officially in lockdown!!!
I did a very quick candle to make sure everyone is still okay and everyone looks great. Healthy veins, everyone is taking up lots of their egg and the air cells look good.
Removed the egg turner and I’m working to gradually increase the humidity in the incubator. I’m afraid of adding too much water but it only goes up one to two percent every time I add more water. I wait about 10-15 minutes between adding more. It’s hard to remove the water once it’s in but I know I can add more as time goes on. The instructions didn’t say how much water to add so I’m just kind of winging it!!! I’m at 54% right now and aiming for about 70%.
I can’t wait for Wednesday!!! I’m in here whistling our call-whistle to them so it is hopefully a familiar sound by the time they hatch
Brooder is all ready, just going to pick up some chick start and electrolyte/probiotics for their water and some eco flake so they don’t slip on the brooder material. Have I mentioned that I’m excited?!?!![]()

Very exciting! 71% is fineI am happy to report that in spite of all my worrying about it, the humidity is maintaining at 70% with the vent wide open! I am hoping it will perhaps drop a little closer to the 65% range over the course of the next couple of days, as I forgot to factor in the added humidity from the chicks as they hatch and dry out. But for now, I am choosing not to worry about it!
I am setting up a wifi camera which I imagine I will be glued to my phone watching for any sign of pipping over the next couple of days! But, I wanted to catch the actual hatching to show my students if the little chooks decide that they want to hatch at 3am when all of us are conveniently out of the classroom! Hopefully I will have some fun footage to share. 2 more days! Go babies go!
EGGS SEVEN AND EIGHT ARE ROCKING A LITTLE BIT. Incredible. Must be getting antsy in there!!
Also my humidity went up to 71%, I tried to suck some of the water out of the chambers with a straw. I didn't take a ton of it out but I did take some, then replaced the cap. I'll check it again soon. My vent is all the way open so I'm not exactly sure how I can reduce the humidity any further without opening the lid, unless I should ever so slightly crack it for a few moments to let some of the moisture out. I think it's probably best if I don't mess with the lid though.
No peeping yet, but I have noticed that they wiggle more when I peep at them!Very exciting! 71% is fine
Heard any peeping yet?
