the carport could later be used as a gazebo possibly.@3KillerBs solution looks good, but in case you can invest more money into a more stable construction, get a carport installed above and around the coop and your chickens should be fine enjoying the shade it provides.
Update: We put a heavy duty tarp on at an angle. Looks like it'll keep the breeze going and also keep the coop nice and shady during the hottest part of the day. I am happy that we can stand in it, and the hawks can't see the chickens if they are under it, and our coop is nice and secure at night. (we have patrol crows and enough activity in our yard as well as an open space nearby loaded with gophers and other tasty hawk treats that they don't seem to bother them) Thought you all might like to see our solution.
