Houdans

Does anyone still have bantam Houdans? My Houdan project met with an untimely demise due to dogs last year and I have come to the conclusion that due to my space constraints I should stick to banties. Really wish I had jumped on them back when BoggyBottoms had them. :/

I might have some full size ones in a couple of months as I have been filling up the incubator .......

not the greatest pics- everyone was moving and they are in the grow out coop til I get the other coops done. Trying to get a coop for each breed finished and am only halfway there:-( Gander- what else do you raise? I saw a nice variety in the pic posted in the RO thread but missed the mottled houdans if they were in it.

Do you plan to keep some of the MH chicks that you hatch? That is an interesting zoo you have there...love the variety! And they seem to get along so well together when they're out:) I just had to get all of the 'fancy' breeds folks here hadn't heard of cuz I like to be different! I did get a couple of production breeds in case sale of the others flop but I love it when someone asks "What is that?" My MH pullet has been following me around the coop and being much friendlier than her shy self. Did any of yall's chickens do that? I believe it is close to her laying time but the MH had always been timid up until now. Think there's a connection?

Roos can be just as sweet, once they learn who the boss is.
My boy would sleep on my shoulder (just like when he was a chick) if he could sneak inside. He had quite the attitude, but calmed down quick after his growth spurt and he got used to the Roo Juice.
Flipping him upside down and carrying him around by his feet for a while helped a lot also.
Gotta be firm and consistent, then they usually go back to their old lovable selves.

The stuffed cutie is for extra flavor and was added by the camerawoman.

The roo we kept the longest was bi-polar. If your back was turnedto him he would attack, ten, if you sat down, he would wnt in your lap for patting. Male and female both tend to be flighty, I chalk it up to their limited visibility that they are easier to surprise/startle.

Finally getting somewhere with the coops and the weather turns again! Finished another house today but won't be working on runs until I can feel my fingers when I'm out there:) In the pics the feed bags were hung up to block wind during the storms. Part of the run is blocked and part isn't. The bags actually kept their waterer from freezing. Not much happening here since it is cold again....

I started with Polish 7 years ago. Tried Houdans and ended up with the sweetest lap hen. So I recently bought 3 more pullet chicks. They are very loveable.
