Houdans

Seventeen Mottled Houdan chicks (and ten Dominiques) from Duane Urch. Can't wait to see how this batch matures.

And one of my hens hoping for a handout.

Picked up this little mottled baby today, hoping for a hen :fl

I've been working like crazy to get separate coops done but still have two more to go and someone started laying the other day. The MH pullet looks to be the one that is laying because if the color in her face but the egg is almost the same cream color as the Russian Orloff eggs. I looked it up again and all of the breeds other than the buff orpington are suppised to lay white eggs. The BO doesn't look like she's laying at all and the egg is way too small for a BO so my conclusion is that the MH IS the one laying and her egg is cream/tinted. After the rain/bad weather this weekend I will have a great week of warm sunshine to get the rest separated and tell for sure! The MH pullet is a sweety so I am super excited...not to mention I have someone waiting to get some chicks as soon as they are available!

The houdan chicks are a month old now and they're starting to get those wild crests going. Since it was a gorgeous 80 degrees after work today, guess who got to go outside and play?

No guesses on gender. Not worried about it at this point.

Two are pretty small, like bantam size compared to the others. I'll probably sell those early. Out of the seventeen I'm hoping to end up with at least a nice trio to move forward.
