That is true too. But I had one I thought was a girl based on her beautiful smooth head feathers and then the comb came in and the crowing began.

To really know, wait for the comb. If you have any comb at all growing then it is probably a boy. My girls have none at all.

As a matter of fact my avatar is the one I am talking about. See how beautifully smooth the head feathers are? But take a good lookat the beak/nares. They are a different shape/size than my girl.

This one has no sign of comb or wattles as of yet

I don't show but I think according to the SOP houdans aren't supposed to have wattles- I plan to choose breeders with the smallest or no wattles to try to bring the right characteristics back. (Well I sold my mottled houdans but will use the same principle when breeding the polish, crevecoeurs, etc)

I apologize to any Houdan peeps who see this post on other threads. Feel free to just respond once if you qhave some info. I picked up some Mottled Java Pullets (hatch around April 24) and have just been informed by a member that they are Mottled Houdans; as they both have 5 toes..... I'll be looking for info as they grow. They both seem healthy to me so far! Any pointers are appreciated!
