Houdans

Quote:
I gave one to a older lady who lives near by this last spring as it had a hurt foot and now this chicken roost near her dog and runs around in her house but always likes to nest in the wash room between her washer and drier and produces about 4 to 5 egg's a week not bad as she was hatched out in April of 2014 ...........

I believe the lady named her Phillies Diller how funny the name seems to fit as Lady Gaga was taken by a young teenage who purchased one of her super healthy sisters ......

The funnier part is how these people come by to tell me about their feathered friends ......

Quote: No problem! I looked all over for Houdan not from a commercial hatchery and never did find a breeder. The fb page should make it much easier for people to find eggs and chicks and I am happy you came here to share about it.

Sweet story. Thanks for sharing!

I'm looking for 1-2 Houdan roosters please message me if you have anything for sale. I need breeder lines with decent type for my breeding program. Mine goes back to West and Pipher lines. Thanks

I am not sure if they are still into the breeding program but I sold some of my roos to these folks about 2 years ago.

Heritage Habitat Farms

They were on BYC at the time but they haven't been on since 2013 so I don't know if they got out of the business or what. BYC still has their profile: heritagehabitatfarms

They have a website listed but it isn't updated but it has the above email and also includes a phone number.

Might be worth a try.

Joining this thread. Read through the last ten pages or so...I have attempted to work on Houdans twice, and started with yucky McMurray basic stock and had two nightmare roosters---added a few more birds and grown them out, re-bred---now I am on the third generation and hoping being on here will help me when I am ready to start the next one in the fall. Trying to breed out the heavier white that came from the added white Polish genes and getting back to the way they should be. I did end up with two nice darker ones with a little better posture and good toes. Crossies I can get a decent roo this time :D Not an attack roo...then I want to keep going with these if at all possible to improve them closer to the standard. I really love them, and hate to see them dwindling to such low numbers!
