It's a cross right now. A sizzle is pretty much a silkie with smooth feathers or rough feathers (frizzled). This one above is first generation.
It has 1/2 polish 1/2 sizzle.

lol I wish I could say that made sense. I know what a silkie is. A slickie is a smooth silkie which happens when you cross them with another breed as far as I know, and this term is just lingo it isn't actually sanctioned or recognized, right.... but... aren't they always frizzled? Or do you call it frayed? Can you tell I am not a Silkie owner?? Although, Aoca, thanks to your arguements about the heat lamps I am considering getting one. No one sells LF Silkies though.

There are LF silkies - they just aren't common, and they can not be shown Sizzles can be shown in the silkie class. You don't say frizzled silkie because it means something different. For example: This is a male frizzled silkie I own.

and this is a male 'sizzle' I own - many generations into the project. He processes all the proper silkie traits, and is the grandfather of the silkie behind the frizzled silkie, and is the father of the frizzled silkie (which is also called a frilkie).

Note that he has no tail feathers due to bullying here but you get the picture... He's practising his flamingo stance. Why is it that you prefer LF silkies anyway? You can get breeder culls that are too large to breed. Silkies are the biggest bantam. They are around 3.5-4 pounds for males.

Are sizzles the ones that come from frizzles and have a fatal gene for producing offspring. So any chicken that has frizzles has silkie in it???? I wondered where the frizzles came from.

Frizzle is a feather mutation that causes the feathers to curl outward. It can and does occur in all breeds, and is most common in cochin, polish and serama.

Frizzle is NOT a fatal gene, and a double gened frizzle (a curly) is not necessarily a terrible thing.

Fray is actually an entirely different gene, and very definitely a defect in any bird that has it.

Not the genetic gurus, the SOP gurus.  Genetic gurus mostly tend to call it lavender as that IS the name of the gene.

It looks like a light blue to me anyway, so makes sense why they'd call it a self-blue. I did feel a little attacked when I brought it up there though

I can think of 2 reasons, 1) bigger incubator (broody hen)

2) access to exotic meat market (as in asian)
