Hey guys. So i know once i finally get the ball rolling i will eventually end up with a rooster (either by choice or force by getting straight run). And while i have no problems with having a rooster myself, the city does prohibit them (although if i get lucky and the little guy doesnt crow much, the city will probably never know lolz). What im wondering is whether someone has built a coop/hen house/bachelor pad (lolz) without a nest box. Yes you read that right a house without a nest box for the boys (unless my thought process is backwards on this and roosters do actually lay eggs, lolz im tired and my brain is trying to be funny... did it work). This is something im truly interested in. I cant stomach having to "take care" of them myself (being mostly vegetarian {not vegan, vegetarian} because my insides hate me) and while i will keep looking, im unable to locate anywhere that processes chickens. I live in the heart of Longhorn country (texas is known for a few things BBQ, rodeos, and beef. 🤔 I only just figured this out but those all go together like socks and shoes lolz)

I've put together many pens as well as a smaller house for roosters to roost in. It doesn't have to be fancy. Just needs to protect them from the elements and have and appropriate roost. There will be crowing. It is inevitable with roosters.

I know there will be crowing lolz. But if he happens to crow less id be happy. Either way either he would probably be sent to a rooster ranch. I attach very easily and very hard to my animals no matter the species. And each one lost still hold a spot not just in my heart but everywhere i look too. From my 1 leopard geck, 1 gargoyle gecko, and 2 crested geckos all the way up to the horse i had in my early teens and every thing in between (4 cats, dozens of fish, and 1 dog {he hurt the most}) they all have special reminders ive dedicated just for them (except the fish. I have one reminder of each species because there were so many lolz). I expect my little featherbrains wont be any different.

Yeah they will crow - and how much depends on the rooster, I've got 3 grown ones -- 2 live in a bachelor pad and one is SILENT, one crows *constantly* and the one that is with our girls crows about as much as a 'normal' rooster would. It's a crap shoot! haha

They are loud, at least 100 decibels, and I'd hate to see your county get up in your business, you could get flagged and fined. Be careful.

But yeah, finding poultry processing is a struggle, I do NOT have the heart to do it myself, either. I'm not vegetarian, I just can't kill something I've taken care of and I am not starving.

I bet if I needed to, I could, though.

My thoughts on the processing exactly. Except that even if i had a gun to my head, i don't think I'd be able to do it.

Ya, the laws for roosters are stupid. How is it fair that people are more likely to get ticketed for having a rooster than they are for driving at 2am with their speakers blasting. It's irritating enough that i want to use language that may not be allowed in this forum lolz. Where i am people can be ticketed for the blasting speakers, but it's only if the cop feels like it...

I always kept my roosters with the hens. I don't know why you would need to separate a rooster. Animals that live in groups (schools, herds, flocks) hate being alone.

Some roosters are loud, such as Rhode Island Red. Some are not, like Brahma and Orpington.

Its simple to imagine why you might need to separate a rooster -- ratio of rooster to hens, so the hens aren't hurt, feather picked, upset, stressed, overmated - by the rooster...

Also, human aggression - that's a no brainer. Remove that rooster. Honestly CULL that rooster.

So, the OP was asking about a bachelor pad for *many* roosters because I believe the OP did indeed understand about how chickens get lonely alone.

Roosters can live together without hens quite calmly. The 2 that live together away from the main flock are perfectly fine and not unhappy.

Yes. For example getting a batch of hatching eggs. And keeping the boys separate until old enough to process
