I doubt such a ban would go over very well with a LARGE portion of the BYC

Honestly, I just ignore whatever it is that offends me... and not much does. I mean, come on.,... it's a forum..... REAL easy to ignore people on a forum.... you just don;t read their posts, or you just skip over them.

Keeping the mods busy indeed!

I fear we would lose a lot of really good people here if there were bans placed.

I'm betting that once the elections are over, things are going to calm down and return back to normal. This is a wonderful group of people.

This isn't really up for a vote, but we do respect our members and their opinions, so....

We have 3 options to us as staff members:

1) Leave these topics as is and only lock / remove if rules are broken.

2) Ban the topics all together (and sig lines)

3) Create a section where these things are allowed to be discussed (BUT with the exact same rules as applied in #1).

We never want to alienate our members, but we also want to keep the peace (and keep our workload down)!

I don't understand why people would want to leave. It is a chicken forum, after all. Seems to me that should be the important part. There are forums for religion and politics elsewhere.

I just hate how I can ignore all the political or religious looking posts, open up one about chickens, and someone has somehow managed to find a way to use, oh, egg laying habits as a way to bring up how stupid they think one or another politician is. I think people for the most part are good at ignoring what offends them, but when people are having something constantly waved around in front of them no matter where they turn, it stands to reason they'll eventually break down and feel the need to respond. And then the fighting begins . . .

Then we would know they're here to talk religion or politics - and this is a chicken forum.
I bet there are plenty of forums devoted to those exclusivly.

Perhaps Nifty, a separate section would work.
