How do I break a broody?!

@MamaPoult, before I put mine in the dog crate, I give them a nice, cool bath, but not up to the neck. Just deep enough to cool the breast and belly real good. I get that cool water up between the legs and under the wings. The idea is to lower the hen's body temp. If I don't have a crate, I'll put her in the grow-out pen for three days so she can't get back to the nests, and she'll get a cool bath every day, maybe twice a day. The night of the third day, I release her. If she goes to roost, great, we're done. If she goes back to the nest, we repeat the treatment. If she needs a third treatment... well, she'll cool off real good in the freezer. I hate to do it, but if I can't break her broodiness, she'll die anyway. Good luck!

Edit: deep, not derp.

Very interesting! I will do that and thank you!!

Any of the suggestions given you should work, I just gave you mine as yet another option, esp if you don't have a dog crate. I had to do that when I had more than one broody at a time (looking at you, Buff Orps!), and only one crate.
