How do I keep my chickens out of my neighbors yard?

Well .. not sure if anyone else has done this or not. But, if mine are free ranging in the front yard and I see them get close to the garden i .. very obnoxiously to add .. shoo and scare the beejesus out of them in the area i don't want them to be. Haven't had an issue, yet, and they free range all day. My former land lady on a horse farm taught me that when her hens got too close to the road, worked for her too. My husband gets a kick out of me doing it, but hey! It works!

I do this as well. When my girls venture across property lines, I come around behind them, pushing them back into my yard. I will also gently boot them in the bottom to let them know that's not the right place to be. I then reward them with food once back in their yard.

They only free range when I am outside as well. I can now call them if I see them getting too close to that line and they come running to me.

So very much depends on the neighborhood, covenants, HOA, city codes and more.

Here in town no electric fencing is allowed.
I have no HOA so can fence where I please with what I please as long as it isn't electric.

How close are the houses?

Why not invest in a portable fence? They're super easy to work with, you can move it around and pack it up when it isn't needed.
Fences don't have to be strong or even fences, the chickens don't know.

Clip one wing, then get some short hog fence posts. The short 24" plastic should work fine. Run a wire at 4" and another at 10" then hook up an inexpensive electric fence charger.
Very discreet and you can step over it.
My neighbor has three strand electric fence for his cattle so all I had to do was add the 4" and 10' wire then alligator clip to his wife.
Of course I now have to make sure the weeds stay away from the wire.
Not sure why my phone wants to clip to his wife. I changed that back to wire twice.

Lol, finally the answer to all those "why isn't my fence working?" questions.
I bet nobody is clipping to the neighbor's wife.

This is what I use - I bought mine from Premier and it can be electrified, but doesn't have to be - and it's very easy to use and move around.

I have to admit I had a love/hate thing going on with my neighbors 30 (!) chickens coming into my yard. I loved watching them and I hated raking mulch back into the beds. On the other hand, their chickens are what prompted me to get my own. They no longer have a flock but I have the remaining chicken from their original flock so it all worked out in the end.

It's been said before, your neighbors won't appreciate it, you need a run. If you live in town there are probably ordinances against free-ranging as well.

I keep my chickens in a fenced in area with bird netting on top. So far, no escapees.

i have the same issue. but my neighbor has a huge great dane that wants to eat the chickens! one day my one hen learned it the hard way, she got cornered and almost eaten! she doesn’t venture far from home at all anymore!

i’ve also found a squirt gun in the summer/warm weather to work very well.
