Crossing the Road
Well .. not sure if anyone else has done this or not. But, if mine are free ranging in the front yard and I see them get close to the garden i .. very obnoxiously to add .. shoo and scare the beejesus out of them in the area i don't want them to be. Haven't had an issue, yet, and they free range all day. My former land lady on a horse farm taught me that when her hens got too close to the road, worked for her too. My husband gets a kick out of me doing it, but hey! It works!![]()
I do this as well. When my girls venture across property lines, I come around behind them, pushing them back into my yard. I will also gently boot them in the bottom to let them know that's not the right place to be. I then reward them with food once back in their yard.
They only free range when I am outside as well. I can now call them if I see them getting too close to that line and they come running to me.
