How do I tame my killer rooster??

Hope I’m not violating any rules but check out this technique for establishing dominance

I saw this video a while back and have been using this method. I already rehomed my alpha roo a few months back because of aggression and when he left, my secondary roo took up the slack on being a jerk. Because I rescued Hawkbait, from a hawk when he was about 10 weeks old I felt that he owes me a bit more respect and he's gorgeous so I don't want to rehome. He occasionally gets testy with me and I use a fishing net to catch him. I carry him around as I do chores and such and parade him through the house letting all family members pet him. Once I'm done with this embarrassment I put him in a submissive pin on the ground to further my point and then let him be. Seems to work for a few weeks before he forgets and I have to show him who's boss again.

This I would rather consider animal cruelty.

And it usually does not help in the long run, just for the moment the thus "treated" rooster needs to recuperate and then he will become wise and attack more fiercely.
It worked for me with a very large and very aggressive rooster. As he came to attack me for the umpteenth time that day, I gave him a full-strength "IDGAF" kick which turned him into a great flock protector with a deep skittishness of people. He never broke bad on a person again.

I have a big California White rooster that came in with my order from Tractor Supply, by accident but he's turned out to be a pretty good rooster. He only acts aggressive when I go to collect a hen, but that's what he's supposed to do. If he gets to close, I'll whack him with my plastic rack and then he backs off but he's never come after me. I think he knows better. :)

I just had a year old Rhode island red rooster kill a 3 month old hen, wth?? Seems the rooster was jealous because I spent time with the hen today my scent was on her and he follows me everywhere n when I'm inside too long he breaks havoc, crowing and attacking the other birds. I dunno what to do as my plate is full and am really saddened by the loss of the hen.

Likely he was just overzealous mating. Chickens don't have great senses if smell so he wasn't jealous of her smelling like you

Welcome to BYC!

Are you sure the roo did it? That seems kinda crazy phsyco for a roo that's supposed to be protecting the hens. Birds don't really rely on a sense of smell, it's more about seeing and hearing for them. I find it hard to believe that he would sniff her and then murder her out of jealousy.

Do you have other roos or cockerels coming of age? I had a hen get killed because the roosters were overly aggressive and had been fighting with each other, they turned some of their aggression to her.

UPDATE: He is now tame however there is a second rooster in the flock and well, you guessed it, it is not going to good. Snow white is his name and recently he has been flogging me

Ugh ! I’m sorry, that may be why the other one tamed down. The hierarchy changes them. I have a cockerel and rooster and they do not do this behavior. I think it may be the breed or poor genetics. I wouldn’t keep a mean rooster. So many roosters out there , it’s worth keeping a better manner rooster.

I would process the roosters, don't need one really, and it's easy enough to get eggs or chicks. Esp if you're too busy to spend the time keeping them from going feral.

They make a real nice roast chicken dinner...
