She wanted people's opinion on her eggs. I said what I thought. If people want sugar coated answers they should say that.....tell me what you think, but not really. It has nothing to do with someone's eggs being better than the next person's. They are pretty colored eggs.....I just wouldn't sell them. I don't sell or hatch lighter colored eggs from my birds.

I know how hard it is to get decent egg color pictures.

I've got some pullets (wheaten and cuckoos) that are just starting to lay so I'll try and get some pictures of those tomorrow....with my color chart , which I can't find right now. Most of my hens are just coming out of molt and with the shorter days I'm getting basically no eggs from them. The egg pictures are from last spring from my wheatens and the cuckoos are from earlier.....can't remember exactly when.

I'm sure you're just waiting to slam me so have at it.

These are some of my wheaten eggs

As soon as I finsh my response, another great posting to follow up on. Sent the email to her.

Thank you!!!!!

Maybe I will get one of my own...

Don't worry what one or two people say about your eggs. Even if they lay less then a 4 they are still a Marans chicken. They do not become a different breed no more what other people say.

I agree with Katy. There is no point in asking for an opinion if one doesn't really want one. Indeed there is nothing to suggest that Taztaz doesn't really want an opinion but, clearly, others are not happy that people express an less than glowing opinion. However Taztaz did ask for an opinion. And if the only appropriate answer to every question is "Oh isn't it beautiful.

" Then what on earth is the point in anyone asking for an opinion?
To me the eggs did not look impressive. Imo it is difficult to see precisely what shade eggs in photos really are; maybe they are a 4. Selective breeding could improve egg colour; one assumes the birds to have nice type & colour.

Ummmm I thought that the Marans standard requires a hen to demonstrate the ability to lay at least a 4?? to be considered a Marans/ I could be wrong. I have some very well bred Marans, and the eggs are not very dark I have been quite disappointed. OP has very nice looking eggs but in my mind could sure stand to be darker. I guess I will keep breeding the dark eggs and see what happens.

I like looking at mine and customers that buy eggs from me comment on them all the time but I dont view them as sellable.

By the way I did not see a "my egg is better than your egg" post and I dont think OP was offended. If I post a photo of a bird or an egg I sure hope I get straight forward replies. It helps us all. IN the horse business there is a term called barn blindness, it defines those that view their own or other horses as wonderful no matter how many faults. It may help one's ego but did little for the breeding of horses or any animal for that matter if you dont observe or allow others to observe the faults.

That is, indeed, what the French Marans Club states.

I think all the eggs look great! I just have hatchery stock cuckoo marans

because they are so rare up here in western Canada, and the pullets just started laying. They are a very disapointing "hot chocolate" color not dark at all. But in one of the first answers someone said that the egg color will darken as the pullet lays more...or did I read that wrong? If they don't lay darker eggs I hope they taste good at least.....

They look nice.

I'm going to be hatching out some BCMs at Christmas. Can't wait to see what I get.
