How do you get ready for winter?

No reason for you to apologize. This is (pardon the pun!) a hot topic, and gets kicked around every single year. There are those in the "give them corn to keep them warm in the winter". Then there are those who specify that it must be whole corn. Then, there are those (Aart and myself included) who say that simply providing balanced feed will do the trick quite nicely. A calorie is a calorie is a calorie, and IMO better for it to be a high quality calorie than a low protein filler.

So, Angry Hen, here's a ? back at you! Ever notice how you feel COLDER right after eating a meal? The body diverts blood from the periphery to the core to aid in digestion. So... is a hen going to feel warmer after she tanks up on corn or feed?

Thank you for this info, I definitely understand the mechanism of it now. And yes, I do indeed know what you mean! That is a very helpful logic that I sure find as a helpful go-to knowledge. No, she will not feel warmer but with the right balanced feed even if it isn't corn will do just as good - better.

And this may be off topic a bit, but the info you have given on multiple topics are really helpful. I am not a starter in chicken keeping, nor am I an expert. I don't know what I am but your info helps!

I remember Chris??? His posts were mostly about Chicken Nutrition. I would have to take 3 hours searching my back posts to find him. I did give him ovations at that time. One post I clearly remember is he stated you could feed Chick Starter "cradle to grave" He stated it just a little differently maybe, like "you can feed only that and it will be fine for the entire life of your chicken".
