How Do You Quiet A Lonly Chick??

Is your chick spending a lot of time directly under the light or hiding away from it? That may give you a clue if its peeping is related to any temperature needs.

Of course, chickens are just gregarious creatures anyway. It probably does want a chicken friend. I like the idea of the ticking clock! That's smart!

Hello, she was under the light most of the day, then she has been moving all over the place. It is in a LARGE rabbit cage and she has not ventured to the opposite side yet. So I know she is warm. She is actually trying to hop out of the cage. She will go to the corner and hop like crazy, then go and lay under the light. She keeps doing this. Weird...

Ummmm I always put a feather duster or stuffed animal in with it so that it will cuddle up underneath it like it's momma.

Howdy :-) I got a 3 week old silkie chick awhile ago with the same problem. She could shatter an ear drum. Unfortunately I wasn't in a possition where I could get another chicken friend. I got her a teddy bear which help a little but not much. The mirror and feather duster didn't help either. So I just continued to hold her constantly throughout the day. She would scream every time she was put back in her cage (rabbit hutch). I think it took about 3 days before she started to calm down. Its been a week and a half now and she's doing fabulous. I still spend a ton of time with her and she only cries for a few minutes after being put back into the cage before she starts running around and playing. She's also my little buddy now which is great.

So anyway.. Id recomend just spending a lot of time with your chick.

I was worried that I handled her too much already. My girls have been picking her up all day. I told them to stop giving her so much attention. Maybe if we tucker her out tomorrow, she will calm down at least at night. Thanks for the reply..

I thought I had it covered when my daughter volunteered her little bunny stuffed animal. She slept on it all night last night and today. She snuggles with it sooo cute. She just started the peeping about 4/5 hours ago and has not stopped. She seems like she is quieting down for the night ( she has to be tired!!) Hopefully this will pass soon.. Thanks for the idea!

From your signature, you have silkies! Maybe if 1 of them were female, they might adopt her. Silkies are great mothers that adopt ducks if given the chance!! Good luck!!!!!
