how do you sell your eating eggs?

We sell USDA Certified Organic eggs, but we produce about 1300 dozen a week. We get $1.75 per dozen through our organic cooperative. I pull the jumbo and super jumbo eggs off the top and sell them locally. If people buy them at the farm I charge $2.00 per dozen, which is the same as the wholesale price because the cartons cost 25 cents. Sometimes if they are starting to pile up here, the wife takes them into town where she has a little route through an industrial area and stops at various businesses and sells them to the employees for $3.00 per dozen. We sell a lot of extra eggs this way. $4000 worth last year. Generally, we are trying to sell super jumbo eggs that can't be processed at the egg plant because of their size. If we raised the price any further, we would have a much harder time trying to sell them and would end up having to chuck extra eggs.

Every Saturday afternoon I drop off my week's remaining production (what's left after the ones I ate or gave away to family and friends) at my Mom's house and she takes them to church the next morning. She takes between 4 doz and 8 doz with her each week. So far they have always sold at $3/doz (but I donate $.50 from each doz. to the church - that's my deal with Mom). Everyone seems happy, Mom, church, churchgoers/customers, and me (I get $2.50 / doz.)

My eggs are not organic but they are cage free, free range and all-natural fed. At the local grocery store, brown organic eggs go for about $3/doz. so that's what I'm competing with.

We have 2500 hens.

Where are they housed? Can you post a pic of your setup?

In this pole barn in our backyard. This was taken a few years ago before we bought the place. I'll have to take some inside photos. You're the only one that's ever asked.

Greetings,
I sell via local e-mail at work since I work in the "city" and Yuppies love "organic" eggs.
$1.50 a dozen brown eggs, Duck eggs get $4.00 a dozen. so far my 5 hens can;t keep up, and winter is here, production is a bit slower now.
Also am thinking about the roadside idea (in the Spring) since I live on a State Highway and the cars can pull off into the driveway.
So far so good!

I sell them to folks at work for $2/dz. Most of the people here were buying organic eggs for $4-6/dz. Mine aren't officially organic in any way, I feed them Dumor feed from TSC and our compost pile is adjacent to their penned area and they are cage free.

My wife also sells them on Facebook to her friends so it is always a battle who gets to sell them first.

So i am gathering that $2 a dozen seems to be the going rate you all sell for? They sell them for like 3.50 at the store for free range eggs - been selling to friends for $ but several have said i should charge more?
