how do you stretch dog kibble

Costco food scored 110 A+ on that list... that's what we feed now, plus eggs & raw meat as available.

When I lived near a small poultry processor (20+ years ago) I bought 20# bags of necks & backs, & sometimes wings, and pressure cooked them then added fresh veggies and cooked a little more. The BEST improvement in my GSD's itchy skin was when I was given a load of Zucchini; she got about 30% necks & backs, 50% Zucchini, and 20% rice & millet.

(only problem was when a single millet grain plugged the vent on the cooker-this was the older kind-which caused it to blow out the rubber plug, and embed a neck bone in the ceiling

so glad I was outside at the time)

I've been reading this thread because of my vet's recent recommendation for a change in cat food. My cats have been eating premium kibble and the vet wants them swithced to canned, but not just any canned...quality canned with little filler and mostly meat. She gave me a website with cat food analysis, but it's gone. I've been reading labels, and trying to compare foods, but I'd love a site like you guys have listed, but for cats...anyone know any?

All my seaches either turn up individual brand sites, industry sites or links to the defunct site given to me by my vet.

I hate that nasty, stinky stuff, but the cats are happy........

I used to feed my dog premium food but I have in the last year switched him to ol' Purina Dog Chow. I do give him cooked eggs sometimes which he absolutely goes bonkers for.

I've had more than one vet recommend a cheaper brand food with less protein because my dog is prone to a hereditary kidney disease.

I've switched my cats to Friskies Special Diet canned off of Science Diet kibble. I know Friskies isn't premium food but they have fewer problems with puking and urinary problems.

I'd like to believe that Costco food is good, but how on earth could they make a quality food for that price? They need to make a profit somewhere. If Diamond can make a good food that cheaply, then why do they make more expensive junk? Then there's the whole Diamond can of worms, I simply do not trust them enough to feed my dogs anything they make.

My cats also get Tast of The Wild (dry cat food) and for moist food I feed B.G. That stands for Before Grain. It is a grain free moist cat food.

ETA: The cat's don't eat as much as my dogs, so I splurge on them and buy them both moist and dry food. Plus the cats work hard to keep the mice out of the chicken coops....so they get rewarded for a job well done with all the kitty kibble and moist food they want. The dogs on the other hand get fed twice a day on schedule. The cats can eat when ever they want.

Sorry...unless there is a pre-existing kidney disease, this is just not true.

I think folks should be educated on what they feed their pets regardless of what kind of pet it is, so it's okay to mention other types of pet foods. Something relevent may come out of the conversation.
