How do your chickens amuse you? Stories Please....

It's okay, Countrywife, I'm a SAHM who home schools four of my six kids, and my home-schooled kids are NEVER as excited to see me as my chickens (or my oldest two who are gone more than they're home, because they're teenagers in public school), but I know that they love me! On the not-so-good home-school days my chickens are a welcome distraction!

I have 4 that like to come up the stairs onto the deck if I leave the gate and door open, then they come in the sunroom, the rooster crows and they check things out looking for treats. They stand on the hot tub like they want to go for a dip The same 4 everytime, they're just silly. It's also fun to watch them chase the bunnies around the yard.

This is Smokey the cuckoo marans roo and Raptor the Welsummer hen. Like their pose? They're saying, "When are you going to open the lid and let us swim?"

My two BPRs do a normal pretty egg song and clucking sound. My EE Tikka (hatched in April) does an egg sound that the Wicked Witch of the West would be proud of. It's sort of a cross between nails on the chalkboard and a crows rawrk. She of course does it as loud as she can.

Every morning when I go out to clean off the poo from the night before some wise @rse chicken gets up on the board and watches as I clean up, gets in the way, even climbs onto the shovel and starts rooting around. Now that is annoying, but the company is nice. My older hens were not socialized as much as these girls were and they run from me except when I have food

I also found out the hard ouchy way that one RIR in particular comes in and pecks at my wedding band

I absolutely LOVE watching my chickens run. It always makes me laugh.

My german shepherd was trying to herd the chickens through the fence. It was really funny when my RIR pullet started stalking my dog. It ended with a peck on my dogs nose.

I love listening to them make their happy chicken noises. It's so soothing - I wish it wasn't dark when I get home from work in the evenings - it would be such a great de-stressor!

The funniest thing I have ever seen my chickens do, is chase one around that has a grasshopper. It's hilarious watching them run around chasing the grasshopper, but when one manages to catch the grasshopper, the other hens start chasing the one with that has it!

There was the time my flock of chickens spotted our elderly Boston Terrier sunbathing on the deck, noticed he was motionless, and sidled on over to check out whether he was dead and therefore fair game to eat.

I'm enjoying my hour of "chicken therapy" right now. Outside with my laptop, a beverage, unseasonably warm weather, and chickens scratching happily in leaf litter nearby. Doesn't get any better than this, folks.

We keep a chicken bucket for the girls. It's a washed out milk jug with a hole cut in it. Seeing the girls run when they hear the bucket shaking is the funniest thing ever! Sometimes I'll throw their goodies across the run, just see them chase it. I could watch them all day!
