how long do chicks stay with mama

Our Silky went broody and we got six fertilized eggs from the feed store. Amazingly they all hatched last Sunday. How long will the new "mama" want to be with the babies before she wants to go back to being with the other big chickens?

Is she in a brooder? She will let you know either way. She will start pecking at them and just wanting to get away. I have mine all together in the run. The hens don't allow any of the flock near their babies. By doing it this way, the flock is already used to them as they grow. No worrying about how they will treat new ones when you let them in. Its already established.
