How long does hatching process take?

and to answer your question on the other forum, YES, 86 IS WAY TO HIGH. that could be why they are delayed ON top of your temp being to low.. understand they have to absorb all that moisture, then the yolk then the veins. If you have your humidity at 86, that's a LOT of moisture they have to get rid of first before they can even THINK about absorbing.

When it's high like that, it makes the membrane, THERE membrane because they have TWO membranes they have to break past. But it makes there membrane kind of like a Rubber ball. or Rubber band. They can't do it and will usually give up. So it's best to keep that humidity down so that it doesn't cause that membrane to get Rubbery... If it does, they will push and push and push and never be able to break it.

So that's why I said lower that humidity..

GOOD TO SEE YOU HAVE A STINKER THAT HAS BROKEN THREW HIS MEMBRANE. Now lets cross our fingers for the others..

I have a mama duck sitting on her eggs right now, they're due somewhere near the end of the month. I would like the ducklings to be imprinted to humans and ducks....so do I have to stalk the nest to make sure they see me first ? Or what if they hatch when I'm not home ? How many days to I have to get them recognize people as the " mom" all while living with their mom and other ducks ???

Just out of curiosity, why do you want them imprinted on humans?? So unnatural, ESPECIALLY if you have other ducks and not just some sad little loner that you're trying to make into a pet. That is SUCH a bad idea when they have a mother who will raise them better than you ever could. I handle my ducks twice a year to clip wings, that's all. They come up to me for food and that's as tame as they need to be.

There is nothing wrong with wanting ducks to recognize you as a source of food and protection. She is wanting humans to be recognized as a care giver just like momma duck is.

I have heard that chicks raised by a broody hen are always going to be a bit more shy than those who are hatched out in an incubator and are handled more often. It makes sense that is would be the same with ducks too. I am sure if you just spend time with them they will recognize you and warm up to you. Make sure momma duck is okay with you holding them and you should be okay.

I'm sorry your babies didn't make it. This was my first time hatching as well, and I'm shocked that I have 1 duck and 1 goose already. I have a goose waiting to break out right now as well as 2 others that are going on lock down tonight. I lost one 2 days ago though. No clue why? I went to candle it and there are blood clots and loose material floating around. The only thing I can think of is something genetically was wrong?

I plan to get more eggs, but I can't find the sebastapol eggs anywhere? I know I spelled that wrong LOL

Big hugs, chin up. You can do this!!! Get some more eggs and you and I can hatch together :)

I doubt it if they will Imprint to humans. I have call ducks and have hatched out many, yeh they look at me as there mommy once they are out of there shell. But once they are outside BOOM, we got FREEDOM... and they don't depend on me anymore.

I wouldn't stalk the nest, your only going to discourage that Momma duck from sitting... They have a Mommy duck to take care of them, so it won't matter if they hatch while your there or not. She'll take care of them.

There Momma will be that Momma Duck, not you, remember she's doing all the work. Sounds like you want all the credit. LOL. Don't think it will work like that..

You are a sweetheart! Thanks for the cheering up. I noticed a seller that was offering Sebastapol eggs on Ebay. They were from Holderreads parent stock but in multicolored with no guarantee on the color. Here is the link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/371056280744?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
