4/9 yesterday, Agatha would be chicken #10 but she is currently out of the equation.  Lots of feathers in the coop.  Oh, dear.
I've been out of the loop lately. Is Agatha still broody and sitting on the eggs you got her? If so how long does she have left? I'm really thinking about incubating some eggs here soon, I doubt I'll have a broody. So I'm researching all I need to know to be successful.

She's still sitting on 14 eggs. There were 15, but once when she was off the nest I noticed that something didn't smell too good - used my super-human sniffer and found one egg that smelled funny, so it went bye-bye. I haven't candled any eggs because I don't know what I'm doing. I may well have tossed a viable egg, but it was definitely "off" to me. Expecting the hatch to being around the 28th,

Don't know why you've been out of the loop, but glad to see you back!

how exciting, not much longer! :) my 2 oldest kids had birthdays so I was busy getting ready for their parties. I love party planning so I go all out for their birthdays. Then we went on vacation to disneyland to celebrate birthdays. My youngest turned 1 in June and we have a tradition of taking the kids to disneyland for their 1st time for their first birthday and we usually go in October which happens to be my other 2 kids birthdays and my nephews as well who also came with us. And on top of that I've been busy with homework and midterms. My last semester of pre reqs before I hopefully get admitted into the nursing program. My poor chickens haven't been getting coddled lately, not sure if they miss me or they are grateful for the space ! Haha.

Candling the eggs is pretty simple at this point as long as your eggs don't have really dark shells. In a dark room, shine a strong light (flashlight) through one side of the egg. You should notice that the eggs that are developing normally are almost completely dark inside with light showing through only at one end (the wide end). They are on day 14. IMO this is the best time to candle them. The non-developing eggs will show light through most of the egg (ie. no embryo formed).

That said, I candled my eggs on day 10 and day 15. I thought they were all good but ended up with 2 that weren't even fertile. They were Welsummer eggs (very dark shells) so it was hard to see anything anyway. Or you can let nature take its course. :) That is usually the best way!

Good day as 6 chicken egg's were found in the nesting boxes .......

I guess the lad's are getting use to the cold weather as it is now staying steady in the lower 90's with some winds every now and then and got the chicken coop cleaned out and hosed down some of the smaller cages as some of the younger ones are denied the use of the roost right so they are roosting on top of the cages they spent time in when younger and what a mess they can make in a couple of day's time .......
