How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Not quite the same species, but I had a line of sheep (one ram specifically) where all his daughters had that genetic fault.  When they'd get close to lambing, we'd find them the same way...laying there dead with their intestines spilled out. What an awful way to find a once living creature.

I'm so sorry that you've both had to deal with that. :hugs

Thank you. Yes I had wondered if it could just be a genetic flaw but I'll never know.

Up from the past couple days. The med brown egg is usually a dark caramel color but she hadn't laid for several days after getting a comb injury. The small tinted I'm guessing could be my Dutch bantam's first egg.

Beautiful egg basket! Are the top four eggs EEs?

If the poke is on the pointy end, it could be not enough straw in the nest box. I was getting a tiny hole on the pointy end of the egg when they started laying, because I didn't have enough straw in the boxes. The pointy end hits the floor of the nest when it pops out. GC
I was considering this too. but I've got tons of straw in each one and no matter how much I have in there, they scratch and make an area of nearly none where they are at:/ I check this daily and even added more nesting herbs which is helping to cradle the egg. I'm thinking about stapling tool box drawer mat in each one to see if this helps also. Thank you!

16 eggs- one broken in the nest and one rubbery egg. Wonder what changed, need more calcium? I feel like we got new first time layers all over again. Is it also possible for a 6 month old pullet to molt after being broody?

We get 5 per day, one from each girl. This is our 1st year with chickens and have ISA Browns. Started laying at 18 weeks and have got 5 every eggs every morning since.
