How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

My new EE Maggie
She is very pretty. I got 2 black and white EEs this year, white heads though. Never had a black and white before and now I have 2.

but as time goes on it gets duller and turns like a clay color.. then she’ll take a break and when she starts again it’ll be greener again... I hope these won’t fade...
Mine do that. I figure it is like they have a store of "dye" and the eggs lose some of the brown impact as they use it up, then they refill it and they turn more green again.

Eighteen. I have 24 birds.
7 are not yet ready to lay.
1 is 7 years old and no longer lays.
2 of the other 7 year old lay sporadically, the 4th is an EE that has laid well all year.
1 is 5 years old and was laying super thin shelled eggs earlier in the year before she quit all together.

The 18 came from:
One in the morning from Angel in the community box
SEVENTEEN at close up time in a nest the EE's had made behind a piece of plywood leaning up against the wall :thI have only 3 EEs of laying age. One of them is moulting now (2 Y/O), one is just coming out (the 7 Y/O). Not sure how many contributed to the nest. They all passed the float test though.

16 eggs today. I have 19 hens of egg laying age in 1 coop, 1 rooster and 3 2 month old chicks. In the other coop I have 9 hens of egg laying age and 2 roosters. In the bachelor pad I have 2 roosters. I have 2 Tom turkeys and 1 Jenny Turkey. The turkeys rotate between sleeping in the 2 coops and sleeping out in the trees.

I had one but someone went in there and pecked it although with them on meds would have composted it anyways will take a store egg we have just now see if I can catch one at it

Seems to be a lot of reporting here right now of hens messing with laid eggs. Interesting.

Only 9 today out of 16 total hens. Probably less tomorrow if they have control over it. They’re not happy with me. I removed the top roost board today. With less hens it’s not needed and now it’s easier to reach them when needed. Also give me a bit more head room when collecting from the nest boxes which are tucked under the roosts.

They took a long time to roost tonight because of the missing board. A lot of pacing back and forth looking for it. A little rearranging of positions too but that could just be for tonight.

Lily is going broody again as well. She’s heading for broody jail in the morning.

They started using the new in the secured area compost bin today. We shoveled most of the mature compost from the other bin into this new one so they’d have biota right away. They’ll have access 24/7 to this bin.

Made frittata for breakfast today so used 15 eggs total. I’m swimming in eggs so this was great.

I’m glad to see posters adding in how many chickens they have with their daily egg count. Gives some perspective.

My girls seem to need to fuss over sleeping position every night even though there have been no changes in the coop. In fact they did it even when I had just my original 12, other than the day they hatched they'd never seen another chicken. You would THINK after months and even a couple of years they would have figured out who slept where but nope. And all the roosts are at 4' so it isn't like they wanted a high roost but there wasn't space.
