Mine have oyster shell available all the time. But that doesn't keep Mellori (5 Y/O Black Australorp) from laying thin shell eggs. She was doing it last year too. I think you could force feed some inividuals oyster shell and the "factory" just isn't going to make use of it.

They always have access to crushed egg shells, but obviously we can’t just force them to eat them, especially not knowing who laid the soft shell. We’re just making sure they have more options to get the calcium now that we know one isn’t getting enough.
Anyways, only 2 eggs today. Guess we have to have a slow day to make up for yesterday.

Only 17 today and I accidentally crushed the ginormous one by clutching the egg carton too tightly trying not to drop it as I opened, closed and locked the gate.
