How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Any time... I've only owned for this past year but I pick these things up fast... :caf

My husband says in a researchaholic lol... He suggested turkey's this year to add to our flock. As well as finding land for a MINI-COW and a few goats!!!!!! I gave him the facts... Now he's thinking just the two turkeys and about 40-50 meat birds.... :smack

Guess who will be tending them... Hint...lol NOT HIM!!!!

I hear ya lol. Used to, all the chickens I had to take care of were my boyfriend's games--I started getting into layers about a year ago (@ his suggestion, mind you)--now I take care of OUR chickens, along with two horses, 4 peafowl, some free-range ducks, way too many dogs/puppies & the house. Oh, along with often watching my 28 month old grandson. I love our animals, but sometimes it does get a little overwhelming, especially if I'm not feeling well, but we agreed it was my job when he works. I was laid off 5 yrs ago, looked for work with no luck, so he started working shutdowns/turnarounds & became a boilermaker, saying as long as he could pay the bills, he preferred I be at home caring for the place, as my job. So I actually feel lucky. As much whining as I may do sometimes, I get to be home with our animals while he's out of town, sometimes out of state, in all kinds of weather, working long hours, so I can be here.

Thanks again.

I love being able to be home with my 4 and 7 yr olds... They are a job in themselves lol...

It wouldn't be so bad if he would just STOP procrastinating and get the construction done (or let me do it) .... He's afraid I'll reinjure my foot if I try to do the building but he works ALL the time and gets home so late it's hard for him to build the coop, run, fence and finish the house remodeling that we've been doing for 2 years completed... I fear he's going to over do it one day.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention because of his work, he hasn't been able to finish my layer pens (again, he got me into this lol) & I've got a slew of babies coming up that will need pens before you know it.

I'm able to do some basic repairs/construction, plumbing, electrical when I need to, but rather he do initial construction. Hopefully soon he'll get enough time to finish them, & use that time for that purpose rather than putting it off lol. I have to remind him he got himself into it lol.

When my barn needed repairs I started leaving the toolbox in obvious places. Then I pulled some materials from the shed and put them in the walkway to the barn next to the toolbox. He got the hint after only a week!! Lol.

The problem here is partially procrastination, but mostly time. His being busy working is a good thing ($), but when he may only get a day or two off, part of that is relaxing & part may go to other priorities. My thing has always been, take a little of time off & apply toward "need to do's" & then do whatever the rest of the time. I count my pens a bigger priority than he does, so they get put off. He sees things as all or nothing, in other words, he rather wait til he can finish the whole project over doing what little he can when he can.

@JustHenny, your trick won't work for me because 1) those pens are over out of the way & not on in the link me of daily traffic & 2) I'm the one going over doing the feeding/watering, but hey, I do like your idea! :)

Ooh stupid phone.....should be "not in the LINE of daily traffic"!
I truly do type out what I mean to say & do proofread, but sometimes this stupid phone will go back & change stuff.

True... But he found time this past winter to be in the WOODS every other weekend, took the whole week of thanksgiving off work to join his brother in the woods and then.... Spent a whole weekend trying out his new xbox 360 game and wii u games..... I understand relaxing after working all day but COME ON... that's just not wanting to get 'stuff' done...

@TJordan, I do not disagree. In December & January he was home almost every weekend, but in all fairness, our December was pretty wet/rainy, so that also worked against him. I don't deny he had chances, but honestly not a whole lot, plus we both have elderly moms living alone & he has an elderly uncle he sometimes needs to help (I don't complain about that), then recently he started staying close to the job & hasn't even been able to come home. He's supposed to be off Monday, but we have to get taxes done that day because no telling when he'll be off again.

Don't think I'm totally defending him. As I said, I'm a believer in doing what you can, when you can, & I do believe he has squandered some of his time, but with only one day off, & half of that dealing with taxes, no expectations here for this time.

I'm not totally innocent of procrastinating myself :/

The babies are a ways from needing individual pens--next they'll move to a bigger communal pen then probably free range for a while after that, so honestly, there is some time. I just prefer not waiting til the last minute.
