How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

I just have to share this story. Earlier today I went out and changed the battery in the ADOR1 automatic door. In order to get to the door from the inside, I have to raise up one set of perches (they are on a pivot so I can raise them up and fasten them out of the way for getting access to the poo boards underneath). I went out tonight to count the chickens and to close the outer door to the run and realized that I left half of the perches raised up out of the way. There were 4 girls sitting way up on the perches about 6 feet above the floor! and there were 16 ladies on the other set of perches (designed for 12 chickens) snuggled up nice and close together. It probably doesn't sound nearly as funny as it looked. :lau I should have taken a picture!

I thought we were picking up again... 9/20, 10/20, 9/20... but have dropped again 4/20, 6/20. All free-range, no lights. Days are getting longer again! Hopeful things will improve - most are less than 1 year old!

Our girls are coming on strong. Have 21 layers, had predicted late Dec. Or early Jan. As their 6 month time. Today we got 12 eggs from the 21. We have 4 Buff Orpingtons, 5 White Plymouth Rock, and 12 RIR girls and 2 RIR boys. Or pre-teens. Soon be selling some eggs to help offset feed bill. They are normally free range, but we have eagle and hawk issues this time of year.
Proud of them all
