How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Nice! Your setup is just so attractive! I suppose mine was, once, but it's 13 years old now. I bought a small 8x10 building from the Mennonites near me, but, being new to the area, did not set it on a concrete base or any kind of foundation, just had them set it on the ground. I'm originally from NM, where the ground stays put. This is Missouri, where the ground turns to a muddy quagmire through part of the year. So my hen house is lower in the SE corner now, and the door hangs crooked. Fortunately the hens don't mind and I can still get the door open, so we're good! 🤣

cold shouldn't affect them too much,
I have to disagree I live in Missouri where the weather flips like a pancake and when we get a sudden cold spell after warm days yes it does have a effect on them. I’ve seen this now for over 30 years. A chicken will reserve its energy to stay warm rather than waste it on laying eggs in cold weather.

Thanks, Dough Hill. I'm in MO too, down here in the SE not far from the Bootheel area. When I first moved here 13 years ago (from a desert state) we had some pretty extreme and severe winters but the last few years it's mellowed out a lot. My thinking was that if an egg is in production it's going to come out regardless of the outside temps. But your rationale makes sense too.

New layer in the hen house!!
:wee :wee :wee
Not totally sure who laid it but the color would suggest that it is either one of my 2 Black Copper Marans or my Marans x EE cross if she didn’t inherit the blue gene. Other possibilities would be Barred Rock or EE.
