How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Still getting an egg a day from our Blue Andalusian hen, but down to an average of only one a day from all three of the Blue Orpington hens!

When I got them, I had assumed the Orps would be the better layers, but that's not how it's turning out so far.

If anyone ever asks me what breed to get for egg production, I'd have to say that Andies are beautiful birds to look at... plus awesome, non-broody layers!

Okay ... okay.. quit rubbing it in..

Of my 7 hens only two are not quite old enough to be laying yet. The other 5 should be experienced layers. It appears that the Dominiques ( 2 hens) one of them is laying one egg a week. The other is doing nothing except maybe molting? That leaves a Welsumer, Cucko Maran & Silver laced Wyandotte to lay the rest. It appears I get 2 eggs one day and then go about 3 days and get one more.. There is not enough laid in the week for Sunday breakfast

Maybe it has more to do with the arrival of fall and the length of daylight? plus the age of my Cochin and Gold Laced Wyandotte. Thoughts????

The "new" girls went 18 for 18 yesterday, but the "old" girls are last in the league giving only 2 or 3 per week from the nine of them as they are molting.

I got my first egg from my first Hen Yesterday:weee:ya:ya! I was so excited! She is a mix breed and thought she was going to lay a brown or white egg but... nope! She gave me a beautiful Olive Green egg! I was so happy on that surprise. So i should be getting another tomorrow since it usually takes 24 hours to make a egg if i remember. Hopefully my other hens will start to lay soon!

Good luck to you all who are still waiting for their first eggs!

4 FINALLY!!! my oldest 3 hens are all old enough to lay now and my lil Serama girl gave me an egg too...

Nine eggs out of 13 so excited, 11 if you count the two soft shelled that almost landed in my hand when I went out clean up the coop from last nights roost.
I have oyster shells down and they free range during the day. This morning I mixed the oyster shells in with some plain yogurt. They devoured it in mins.

I think our hens took the Labor Day holiday to heart. We only got 3 eggs and have been averaging 8 per day. Hopefully, they will pick up again I have a lot of baking to do.

So far today I've gotten 27 out of 30 hens.

Now to burst my own bubble... 15 of those eggs were found in a nest near the wood pile.

I know of several hens that will have a wing clipped this evening.
