Ours seem to do a relay with molting. One starts then passes the baton off to another two weeks later. It's been a continuous stream of molting since the first started in October. Still have 5 of 13 to go5 today. Whole lot of molting going on. they seem to be contagious once one starts they all.join in.
My Rouens molt together at a sensible time (fall), then my Muscovies wait until it gets incredibly cold before starting their molts. Instead of doing a relay, they choose a section of feathers to lose together, regrow those, then move onto the next section. This year was neck/head feathers, then their undersides, then flight feathers, then their tails. They are currently regrowing wing feathers and tails. It’s almost January and they are far less cold tolerant than their Rouen sisters. Not at all sensible molting behavior.Ours seem to do a relay with molting.
