How many homeschooling families do we have on BYC?

Due to issues w e cannot homeschool. For now we attend a Waldorf school that i FABULOUS. Our son was getting straight A's but behind socially. He has some type of autisitc spectrum disorder. The Waldorf shcool is willing to work with it until we get a diagnosis. They've really saved us.

I was homeschooled for my entire 13 school years!

(wish I could say I am rich and successful, but I'm unemployed and raising chickens!

Another homeschooling family here. We are new to BYC and new to homeschooling. We had my daughter enrolled in preschool and took her out due to being picked on by other kids. My DH had a rough go in school so we've decided to homeschool our kids for as long as they want.

I am another homeschooling mom! I was homeeschooled for 9-12th grade after some TERRIBLE decisions on my part as a teenager. I was bored at school, so to entertain myself I made trouble. Making trouble also meant having troublemaking friends.....and so on and so forth! I was able to channel all that boredom at home and finish high school in one year.

I always knew I wanted to homeschool my kids. My boys are 11 and 9 and are both in the 5/6th grade right now. I have always use some sort of curricula as I know that my scatter brained self would not be able to pull together a comprehensive program like some of you ladies can!!

We have tried A LOT of curriculums (AOP, A Beka, Veritas Press, Horizons, Lifepacs, Sonlight) and have finally found a mix we are incredibly happy with. We use Horizons for math, Sonlight readers and read alouds (We fell in love with this aspect of their program!), Wordly Wise, Sequential Spelling, and the Robinson curricula for the rest.

It's always nice to find other homeschoolers!

Start doing little teaching things with your daughter now. Try introducing colors and shapes (a shape sorter works great for both of these things). Your daughter will start catching on and your husband will be impressed! Once you can impress your husband and prove your dedication to the homeschooling, he'll come around and most likely change his mind.

I have she can count to twenty and knows her abc's all though she somestimes gets out of order. We've started colors and shapes we've even started some spelling but I think that will take longer...lol. She does know the first three letters of her name S-O-P..... I know I know i'm bragging but she's my first and she is the most amazing person I've met...

It sounds like she is a little smarty pants! Good for you! Just keep working with her. Once she has her letters down pat, then you teach the sounds. Once she knows the letters and the sounds, then you teach her how to blend them to make words. Then, once she is reading, there really is no point to going to kindergarten in public school. All they will do is hold her back! See?!?! Keep teaching and her smart little self will plead the homeschooling case to your husband all by itself.

I hope so I just continue to gather materials and write down ideas for lesson plans and such if I don't use them maybe I can pass them on and if I do maybe I can still pass them on...lol.
